NEW restrictions on online chatrooms, websites and mobile phone content will be introduced within a month to stop children viewing unsuitable material.

Providers of live services, such as chatrooms, must have their service professionally assessed to determine whether its "likely content" should be restricted.

....and do you have an opinion at all?

Why should the net be different to any other medium?

However, one thing I would disagree with is if they censored it at an ISP level .

Those mobile phone companies are also pretty dodgy, look at the adult orientated screen savers and games they target towards young teens/kids.

Every magazine has ads for them.

one site i go on have recently changed where they need specific details for you to join. so its coming in for sure. not before time in my book!

bit different to this article but id say down the track all people will no longer be completely pseudo online. at least not to the site itself. just a guess

This decision will affect Nicks at some level, if not board wide.

Considering the chat room is live, it may have to be assessed, and then given a rating.

Could this mean we see 24/7 moderation of Nicks?

They're the ones that are the problem.

they aren't actually mobile phone companies, they're just content providers. They cut deals with phone companies, get people to download pix or ringtunes which then signs them up to a contract (if they bothered to read the fine print) and charge them $5 for receivng premium SMS's.

Grab the mobile off any teenaged boy. 13-15 and go thru the memory and if you don't find any stuff there innapropriate for his age, he'd be an exception.

Solution: don't buy kids a mobile phone before year 11. The only technology I use is an old 3315 and occasionally a digital camera. No music players blaring in my ears isolating me from everyone else 24/7, no downloading worthless ring tones, no brand slavery (ipods), nothing.

What a society filled with technological rubbish we live in. /end rant

It all makes me want to go back and live in as a park ranger in a Costa Rican cloudforest. Too bad there's a revolution to be a part of Wink

I agree Omar. I certainly didn't need a mobile phone before I bought my first one in year 11 (then again I didn't have any friends either haha). But the point stands...

I agree that there is a lot of technological junk out there, but I do appreciate the basics (internet, DVD player, ipod). Although I only use my ipod in my car these days...
