Interesting.
I've read a legal disection of the IR changes that labor proposed leading up to the election and the intent is pretty clear. I'm not sure why it would take up to 2 years to draft new legislation.
Or is this just preparing for the next election already, aiming to be able to cite "unfinished business" as the reason to re-elect them. Hasten slowly on their election promises so they need a second term to actually meet them all.

This is why the struggle needs to continue.
Lets hope the unions stand up to Rudd and force him to deliver the changes much sooner than the article explains. We all had a hunch he was a right-wing prick, now he's proven us to be on the money.

LOL - And to think, I got up the next morning after Rudd's inspirational victory speech and thought to myself that the roses smelt better, the grass was greener and the birds were singing in harmony.
I even belted out a rendition of 'eye of the tiger' just for a little more motivation for all the good times that we are about to have!

If it takes 2 years it will only be because of the obstructions placed in the way by the losers of the last election.
Julie Bishop has already stated that they will oppose changes to the legislation. Despite the clear message the electorate sent.
Despite the very recent claims by Nelson that "Work(No)Choices is dead, you need to look deep into his words to see what he is thinking.

What, a Labor government promising something and not delivering? Wow, what is the world coming to? They will campaign on the unfinished business line and then the week after announce they cannot abolish them and enjoy an 8 year term elected on more lies
Wonder when they will move to the 4 year fixed term like they did with Victoria to keep their jobs longer |

But what's the difference between the situation in the senate in July 2008 and January 2010? From July, they will need the support of the greens and the two independants, that will still be the same in 2 years time? They could spend 6 months drafting the legislation and have it into the senate in July easily.

Seriously, can you not remember "core promises"? What a joke accusing a government of 4 weeks for not delivering.
As for "4 year terms", we should have them throughout the country.
We should also have a fixed date for elections, not at the whim of leaders who think they can win by calling elections at short notice.
Now Eddie, aren't you a pom? Do you know what the English term of Parliament is?

Yet I seem to remember that Howard went to the polls saying if he is re elected then the GST will come in and the people were happy with it (Some of us alot happier than others  ) unlike Bracksy and his 'No Tolls' promise yet suddenly the money disappeared very quickly and he had to turn it into a toll road now Rudd heading the same way with WorkChoices |

The past is the past. The GST only got up because of the Democrats, so the past has treated them well. I have no problems with the election process in this country, even if sometimes the results are skewed.
Interesting comment made by the Prime Minister just days after the election. Referred to untangle the legislation that exists. The meaning was plainly that the Work(No)Choices laws had gone to far, but winding them back would be a delicate operation.
You must remember that the Prime Minister is trying to appease the unions and the employers. A delicate job, but a task I am confident the Prime Minister can achieve.
I just love typing "Prime Minister". |
