...yeah, well, it will cost you an arm and a leg, but not only that, Rudd will probably let Telstra build the thing, which means the whole industry is dominated by a monopoly all over again.

Get a new ISP Dave.

Considering that the large majority of the current ISP's either just buy wholesale bandwith from Telstra or Optus and re sell it or use Telstra infrastructure with their own plugs (I think they're called Dslams) in the exchange.

The current regulatory rules are the killer to investment. No company is going to spend shit piles on building infrastructure if they have to then rent it to competitors at low margins.

Pfftt...Telstra are the worst. They own most of the infrastructure, but their treatment of their customer base is appalling.
My isp allows me to "blacklist" email addresses to cut down on spam. Free service.
Telstra offer the same thing, but charge you $3 per month!
That's just one of Telstra's little gouging tricks.
It will not matter who builds the next network, what will matter is how regulated it is to give us the best possible deal.

so tell me someone, is the 'local loop' bundled or not? to me it doesn;t sound like it if third parties are renting from telstra.

if you think adsl etc is shyte here go visit your kiwi cousins. it's fukt compared to here. there was a good documentary on broadband speeds and nz fell way short of oz.

besides, no matter how fast a network is it will always slow down with the increase in network traffic and our expectations. what may seem slow now was might fast not so long ago.
