Scam emails are kind of expected when you have an email account... I don't get many through mine for some reason, but I assume outlook users would get a lot.
Does anybody have any good stories about these emails? i.e. funny emails they received, or maybe conversations they got into with one of these guys? Or even (now this would take balls to admit), has anyone here actually contemplated taking them up on their offer?
I didn't realise till I read about it that these emails are actually written by Africans (Nigeria, Burkina Faso and that region seem to be common sources), for whom this is their only real source of income - sending out millions of these emails a day hoping someone somewhere will bite.
Frankly I wouldn't begrudge them the money, because anyone stupid enough to fall for such a scheme kind of deserves to get ripped off. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

LOL, I've had a few offering work.
The catch when you read it carefully is the "work" appears to be money laundering. They transfer $5k into your account, you then distribute $4500 to other accounts and keep $500 for your trouble.
Sounds like a good way to:
a) make easy cash,
b) get your bank account emptied
c) get involved with the wrong kind of people and
d) potentially end up in gaol. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Use Gmail (google mail) and not a single piece of spam gets through. Plus it's generally much much better than any of the others.
Pretty simple solution. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

I noticed in my old Yahoo account I want the British Lottery, and I'd be damned if I remember buying a ticket, or being in England to buy the ticket. I also had some woman on Myspace start talking to me, and then she said that if I helped her get out of Nigeria (she was appartently from England!) she would come to Australia and marry me!
I missed my chance for a hot Nigerian wife.... _________________ Ðavâgé

I always just assumed they took your bank details and then drained the account, with not so much as a thank-you for being so gullible
Thanks for the link Dale, although reading the faq they are far too sympathetic towards 'victims' of these scams. I tend to think they are a good example of the old saying "a fool and his money are soon parted". _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace

I received 3 or 4 emails like the one you got David, each had the name of a 'relative' of mine (just used my last name and a random first name). I'm really quite devastated, lost an uncle in a car accident in Togo, and a whole family of cousins in the tsunami disaster in Phuket
On the plus side they've all left me a total of US$37 million. Now just let me get my bank details and give these guys a ring... |

Never get SPAM on my ISP email because I never use it to sign up to anything on the web. I use hotmail, and Gmail for that. |

Probably not, it was probably some guy using models photographs, the picture on the myspace that I was pmed from was a decent looking woman....but me being broke the money never got to the person.
Someone on Yahoo tried the same scam...didn't get no money she wanted to go from Nigeria back to England then promised to come to Australia Who would believe that crap? _________________ Ðavâgé
