Presume the 60% refers to the postal votes Member, not provisional, mobile or absent which will also make up a fair chunk of those still to count Either that or scrutineers have already decided that the flow isn't going to be as bad as 60/40. Either way you can be sure Labor would not have called it unless they were certain. |

McKew,has retracted her win,BUT 60% of the greens votes go to Labor & 40% to Howard,BUT most of the postal votes have gone to McKew & also the Greens.
The final count will be done by Mid day Friday unless something is forthcoming before hand. _________________ PeterWH VK2FPHR Membership No.248693

Ch 7 have just had Maxine on and she has not called it.
The AEC have, but she said; "It looks like a Labor seat, but I'm holding off on the celebrations".
Looks like the Age is taking a leaf from the little paper and selectively quoting. |

The Greens directed preferences to labor in this election, so the split would be about 80/20 _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

What kind of Greens voter would actually give their preferences to the Coaliton? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

If I recall, there is a group called Green Liberals or something similar to that, plus there are a larger group called Liberals for Forrest's _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

Where did you here most postals were going to ALP and Greens Peter?
I watched McKew on the news tonight saying that for the first time in history Bennelong is a Labor seat. If that's not claiming victory I don't know what is. |

But, everybody's pretty much conceded she'll get it, right? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

As a Bennelong resident for 24 of my almost 32 years, I can tell you that Howard made more letterdrops, promises and appearances for this electorate in the last 3 months than in the previous 6-7 years.
He certainly knew he was in trouble.
Postal votes here apparently have a trend toward the coalition, but as someone mentioned earlier if Howard wins, he'll most likely resign (used the words, "end of my political career" in his concession speech) and we'll be left with a brand new Lib who won't get the PM vote, vs Mad Max. She'd romp it in. |

FORMER journalist Maxine McKew remains reluctant to claim victory over John Howard in Bennelong, despite slipping up and referring to it as a Labor seat.
Ms McKew, facing the media for the first time since her election night function, was met outside her Eastwood campaign office today by a throng of supporters.
When asked if she would declare victory in the seat the former prime minister held for more than three decades, Ms McKew said no.
"The results are very, very encouraging, but no, I will stop short of that," she told reporters.
However, moments later, Ms McKew went on to say: "This is now a Labor seat for the very first time in the history of Bennelong.

Hmm Magfan.
Those figures are less than I posted yesterday on page 3 of this thread.
Here they are again;
HOWARD, John Winston Liberal 35,474 48.34 54.13 -5.79
McKEW, Maxine Labor 37,913 51.66 45.87 +5.79
So they've both lost votes in the last 24 hours? |
