Unlike other parts of the world, having your name crossed off the electoral roll on election day is compulsory here in Australia. Yes, i know you believed that voting was compulsory, it's not.......having your name crossed off the roll, however, is.

So......why not make a stand......do something for yourself. Actually make your vote count!

I think you all know my political views, and my views on my fellow workers. As a supporter of trade unions, and a member of the ALP, I have never actually pushed my beliefs onto my daughter (why the hell she's in love with a liberal voter is beyond my comprehension!). I've only ever told her to think of what and who she's voting for and to make her vote count.

And i implore the same to you all today!

P..S. Not only is he scum Liberal............he's a f@##$$#@# Geelong supporter as well.........

where did i go wrong with her?

Got home from casting my vote a few minutes ago, went passed another polling booth and I am glad I went to the one at the school the one at the Child Care Centre is full of people...

Some Liberal guy handing out fliers got a gob full from some old guy when trying to pass out "How to Vote cards for Vanessa Goodwin" always funny when these people try and give an elderly person a "How To Vote Card"

I was surprised that the Greens had 2 campaigners handing out crap and both Labor and Liberal had one...the Liberal guy was just before you went into vote.

I've been at the front line before. It's generally a very nice place with all the "true believers" from all parties getting on fairly well.
If the Liberal guy got a gob full, then 5 minutes later I would cop the same thing. Part of the game I'm afraid.
I do remember one campaign that was a little different. The local "Right To Life" party had letterboxed an A4 size full color picture of an aborted fetus. This pushed about 70% of the electorate over the edge and the person handing out how to vote cars copped it every 2 minutes.
Not one of my fellow volunteers, or myself, had any sympathy.

Once again, you wrongly claim to know what the rest of us think or believe.
It would be blatantly obvious to anyone who has previously voted in this country how the polling booth works.

Having said that, I agree with the main thrust of your post. I can't see the point in purposely voting informal.

i didn't vote but that was because of a lack of competence at the aec. had a chat to one of the labor guys and asked how confident they were. he said that things were looking ok up until yesterday and confidence has been dented slightly.

never been to a country polling booth. little bit more relaxed and friendly than city ones. good sausage sizzle supporting the local footy club, woodend hawks.

also the local reverend was spruiking a raffle for a trailer full of wood. ah yes, this country living is an eye opener for me.

Well, my first experience with voting was quite uneventful.

I was rather dismayed to see that there were only 4 parties running for the House of Reps in Canberra (Libs, Labor, Greens and insane anti-American climate change skeptics Citizens Electoral Council). The senate was rather more eventful with a whole swag of interesting minority parties, so I gave it a go and went below the line.

Too many flies at 8:15 in the morning though Sad not to mention how-to-vote pushers. At least the Greens recycle their bloody cards.
