Having read the pamphlet now, it is pretty low... although I still reckon it looks a bit amateurish, and probably would have been unauthorised. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Quote: | JACKIE KELLY: Well, I've read the alleged pamphlet and when I first read it I had to laugh because I think everyone who reads it has their first instinct is to laugh, pretty much everyone who's read chuckles in terms of the parody it does make of various things that have happened during the campaign. |
So was your first instinct to laugh David? |

Not personally, but hey, different people find different things funny.
It might be funny if it didn't have such a nasty streak to it.
Just listened to Howard's address on the radio, btw, several questions were fielded on the incident and I thought he answered them very well. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I cannot name one person, sober that is, that would find that leaflet funny. But then again, I don't reside in Canberra.
The Press Club lunch today was fantastic, for Labour.
Here was JH with his last chance to influence the press, and the wider viewing/listening audience, and he had more than 50% of the questions relate to this incident. No hope of putting out a positive message about the way forward, just having to put out spot fire after spot fire.
Really sums up the Coalition at this point of time. They know no way forward, but constantly refer to the past.
They have become the Demons of the political spectrum. Past glories are all they hang their hat on. |

50% is an overstatement - anyhow, after the first couple, he got through the questions very quickly and was given far more time to answer some of the more relevant questions (Such as the one about his grandson and climate change? jeez trust a Herald Sun journo to come up with something like that). _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

David, I was counting the questions. Though some journo's asked the question they had been working on for a week, they also added a comment/question about this scandal.
50% was conservative. |

Admittedly I missed the start, so maybe I didn't catch them all. Or I've got a terrible memory. Possibly both.
Whatever the case, I was impressed with his performance in general. I guess the more important thing though is what effect it had on those (the ones that listened, that is) who don't already love John Howard _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

4 of the first 5 questions had a reference to the leaflet in them. |

Watched the press club address and loved every minute of it. Was interesting to see nearly every single senior member of the press gallery hit Howard on this issue and leave him with increasingly little room to move. Paul Bongiorno absolutely strangled him with what was essentially a statement rather than a question.
As a summary, the following now seems to be the case:
The retiring member Jacki Kelly's husband was caught handing out the pamphlets, as was a member of the NSW Liberal Party executive who has since claimed he was authorised by someone in the party to do so. The whole thing was organised out of Kelly's home. It has also emerged that the new Liberal candidate's husband was also involved in distributing the pamphlet. The best thing yet though is that the ALP was tipped off by someone within the Liberal Party itself. At least that means there is at least one person left in the NSW branch that has some sense of common decency.
Roll on Saturday so we can be rid of these low life scumbags. |
