Purple Rain named greatest soundtrack
October 24, 2007

IF you've hummed along, tapped your feet, or even danced in your seat while watching Purple Rain, Saturday Night Fever or Trainspotting, you're not alone.

The soundtracks from those movies have been named among the 50 greatest by the editors of Vanity Fair magazine.

The full list will be revealed next month in a one-time Conde Nast magazine, Movies Rock, for subscribers of its 14 titles.

Purple Rain topped the chart even though it was described as "perhaps the best badly acted film ever", editors at Vanity Fair said, while Trainspotting came in at No.7 and "Saturday Night Fever" was eighth.

The Vanity Fair editors said the Purple Rain soundtrack was a flawless combination of "funk, R&B, pop, metal, and even psychedelia into a sound that defined the '80s".

They obviously did not consider Mary Poppins.

It may not have won but it would certainly be ahead of that crap the vertically challenged, no-named one put out.

Just shows why the late 70s was demonstrative of a complete lack of taste.

None of those songs are as good as Yellow Dog's One More Night and that's saying something.

Here's some of my favourite film soundtracks:

Trainspotting
Pi
Requiem for a Dream
Paris, Texas
Picnic at Hanging Rock
Wings of Desire
The Double Life of Veronique

All well-worth checking out.

Millions and millions of people showed their lack of taste by shelling out their hard earned on the album and the movie.
Looks like the majority rules.

I think their career devolved into a stint at McDonald's.

Saturday Night Fever is considered a Classic these days both as a film and as Music. Stayin Alive is one of the Signature tracks that soundtrack the 70's. Say what you like about the 70's but the facts are there the Bee Gees writing/producing "formula" worked.

BTW which one of Yellow Dogs love songs can match How Deep Is Your Love? 26 weeks in the top ten can't be wrong .... and who the frog is Yellow Dog.

Who is Yellow Dog? Are you kidding? Shows how much you know about music. Keep listening to the Two Gees.

How Deep is Your Love?

Shows how parlous the state of music was at that time if that piece of fluff lasted so long.

Even the songs on Cucumber Castle were better.

In the end, chart success doesn't accurately reflect quality of a song.

For instance, crazy frog. Or even worse, Black Eyed Peas.

Most people who believe they are a ram are usually a ewe.
