Sorry if the actual facts are inconvenient but you might want to try looking at the decline in the federal governments share of health funding if you genuinely want to find one of the primary reasons for the shitty state of the public health system.
"An Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report to be released today shows the Federal Government's share of public hospital funding fell from 45 to 41 per cent in the decade to June last year, while state and territory funding increased from 46 to 51 per cent."

By the way MC, the original GST agreement did not call for the states to abolish stamp duty it called for the Ministerial council made up of the state and federal treasurers to review the issue after five years and to consider abolishing it depending on the financial position of the states at the end of that period. If you look at the latest Commonwealth-State financial agreement I think you will see that they have since agreed to phase it out by around 2011.
As for the 'stamp duty bonanza' Stui how much do you reckon it costs to provide the necessary infrastructure to keep up with the housing boom which generates the revenue? |

I didn't suggest the GST agreement called for abolition of stamp duty, I was intending to point out that apart from federal funding, they also get the GST revenue as well as the money from stamp duty has skyrocketed.
As far as the infrastructure.....
As far as I understand, developers in the estates build the roads and arrange for utilities. Costs are I'm sure passed onto purchasers.
What infrastructure does the state government provide? (if you say public transport I will injure myself laughing) _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

DAMN RIGHT WE DID - AS WE SHOULD OF!!
The fight was always more about getting the staff we require to provide the care we want to be able to provide for patients - what we would expect for our kin and for all members of the community
There is no satisifaction in being a nurse and not being able to provide the nursing care you want and know is needed
Surely I must have still been jetlagged when I read that K K K Kennett was on the right path THAT man did more to decimate the profession of nursing and the provision of high standard health care than anyone in my 30 odd year history of being a nurse - thankfully many of the experienced nurses that walked under his regime have slowly returned
The system is far from perfect now but a squillion times better than it was under THAT man
What the Federal Gov could do is - address the shortfalls in Aged Care funding - that would go along way to reducing the pressure on the public hopsitals
Nurse- Patient ratios here to stay - GOOD NEWS FOR ALL _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” |

Yeah it does, I think its because I'm still relatively new around here and I think these jokes have been going on for some time and I haven't had the opportunity to participate in them.

Thank you and please don't think my 'assertive' approach to discussions is personal, I tend to push my point to the "enth" degree.
I know some people think I push it too far, but I really am a good guy, after all I follow Collingwood with a passion. _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |
