A milestone day today, young nuffy caught his first bugs.
I took him out and let him roam the front garden while I was weeding. I found a centipede thing while I was weeding so I thru it onto the gravel where my front lawn used to be, Picked up Nuffy and basically rubbed his beak on the centipede trying to get him to look down. Understandibly, he was mortified by this and after I let him go, he stalked off fluffing himself. After a couple of minutes, I looked over to where he was, and he'd walked back while I wasn't looking to the centipede and was pecking at it. Picking it up in the beak, giving it a shake and swallowing some of the juice that came out. He obviously didn't like the taste that much cos after he killed it, he didn't swallow it but left it there and walked over and started pecking my toes (I was wearing thongs).
Al little later, he found a slater in the garden and did similar. Picked it up, squashed it, got the taste and spat it out.
It's a start. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Born 8 days ago. 3 Willy Wagtails.
How they still get into the nest is beyond me as they are getting very fat. Mum & Dad are very efficent bug catchers. A joy to watch them in action.
Mum's not happy that we are looking.....
And someones looking forward to one falling from the nest.......
I believe they will fly before the end of this weekend. |

In the context of a lil magpie he is beautiful, I don't understand "Born 8 days ago. " Is the holding of hands a symbolic gesture for humans? By the way, do you mind if I ask you a personal question? What's your sign? If you could have any kind of robot what would it be? Do you have any conditions I should know about? How old are you? What you said was either too complex or too simple for me. Do you like talking to me? |

Got home today and the little buggers are getting very game.
As you can see, if they cannot fly, it's a long way down,
It's starting to blow a bit, hope they can hang on. |

They have flown!
We just went out and the nest was empty. Have seen 2 of the little blighters since, so let's hope the 3rd is OK. They are already catching insects for themselves.

The little birds obviously develop much quicker.
I don't know how old Nuffy was when I found him, but I've had him for nearly 3 weeks and he can't fly yet. If he's on the ground, all he does is make a breeze, if he's on my hand he can make about 3 metres falling on a 45degree angle. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Couple of new photos from a few days ago. The nuffmeister is doin well. Trying to fly when he gets the chance and getting better at it. Today i let him go for a walk on the back lawn before feeding which was funny. He basically chased me around the lawn with his wings spread, mouth open and squawking like you wouldn't believe. of course, once I fed him, he toddled off, found a warm rock and settled down for some sunbaking.
Here's some photo's from a couple of days ago. BTW, the "parrot" in the birdbath is plastic. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Glad to hear the parrot was a plastic one, don't need a good little magpie mixed up in the rainbow warrior lifestyle....not that there is anything wrong with that...
I got a good welcome home, and welcome to Melbourne there were Magpies flying around as I got to where I was staying and when I was leaving Hobart Airport a magpie flew passed the van _________________ Ðavâgé

Haven't taken any more photo's but he's doing well. He was very unimpressed with me being away for 14 hours yesterday, but I fed him at 6am before I left and threw some on his cage floor along with a small opened tin of kitten food.
As soon as I got home, I fed him. He was pretty hungry but otherwise fine which was good. He's started to recognise the mince mixture when it's spilt on the cage floor and actually peck and pick it up, which is good because it means I can go out for a day and he'll cope. (even if he's not happy about it. Sort of like a teenager who's parents have gone out for the night and left a fridge full of fresh meat and vegetables for them to cook their own dinner instead of money for Pizza )
This morning, I fed him and let him out for a walk around the yard while I watered the back garden. Far from being pissed off at me for yesterday, he followed me around the yard like a dog. I gave a couple of squirts with the hose, and he just fluffed up and rubbed himslef on the wet ground, having a ball.
The two actual dogs appear quite used to him now, but not so much that I'm willing to take the chance of leaving him out of the cage when I'm not there until he can fly. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
