I read some time back that the building industry in Darwin is up in arms over this 457 visa caper.

Most of the workers on building sites up there were there only on 457 visas, and the locals were arcing up about it.

Not so much about the fact the ring-in's were working at cheaper rates, but moreso the fact that the ring-in's just couldn't comprehend Australian work sites practices, as well as the dodgy work being carried out.

If Gerry Hardly-Normal wants to fill his stores with 457 visa employees, so be it, as long as he reduces his prices to match.

You mean like the "you 5 guys stand there and watch me pretend to work" practices I used to see at Spencer St Station every day?

The second tier system is OK if the workers imported do jobs that the locals are too lazt to do ro consider beneath them. Fruit Picking is an example of this.

It is not a bad idea at all.

I like the idea of dividing all the worlds wealth equally amongst everyone to ensure that even the lazy people that can't be bothered getting off their arses and doing something, are given their "fair share"

Wether they just spend it on Booze and Cigarettes as a priority over small things like food is beside the point!

Anyone who has done fruit picking has only done so out of desperation. You may wish to work for $5 an hour, I won't. It's nothing to do about being lazy. Bringing in cheap labour who will work for a bowl of rice is all about that. Paying them stuff all and making more profit as you can bet the end price in the shop is the same no matter what the costs.

They dont get paid $5 an hour, in the GV they get paid by the bin they pick. The more they work the more they get paid.

They can earn up to $400 a day in peak season.

But it is too hard for us Aussies. If they work in the industry at all they do so for a few days to get enough moeny to gamble, drink or smoke and shoot through. Entirely unreliable but good union fodder.

Those starting out jump at the opportunity.

And on another point, they will be much rejoicing by some on the death today of another capitalist knob who employed 100s of people.

Gulags? There were in Russia.
A totalitarian state I believe.

Yes, thankfully (in Russia) and regrettably. The anti-capitalist nirvana.

I have no idea what you are on about, unless you have the same view about capitalists as sherife.

Careful there, you nearly gave Sherrife a coniption. The mere thought that he and I shared political ideology could have him calling for the crash cart. Wink Laughing

Can't say as I have, but Multi, seems like an interesting fellow, worth debating

if your referring above to John Ilhan I find your comment quite repulsive. He may have been a self made millionaire and employed hundreds of staff, but he also gave back to the community in many ways, mainly financial.

Well, that comment certainly highlighted your real identity.

I suppose you feel the same way about all the other club's sponsors as well. I bet you won't be offering any time soon to replace all the sponsorship dollars with money from your own pocket.

Nah, I didn't think so.

Guys he was being sarcastic.

Actually he's totally wrong for correlating my hatred for capitalism with hatred for individual people. I wouldn't wish anybody dead, unless they're fighting a bloody counter-revolution.
