M8s I've had enough! today's (Sunday) Tv line up on ch8 which is owned by the ch9 mob for Darwin is as follows:
11:00am the Sunday footy show ( rugby league )
12:00 miday Boots'n'all ( rugby league )
12:30 Football gelong v dockless
3:30pm Rugby league
5:30 other crap

last year on ch7 we had 2 games of afl on sundays ( we used to get atleast 5 games a weekend), the footy panel, another show with carey or cambell. e.g the day was football.
Darwin is a Aussie rules town, we had wayne (ker) jackson up here not long back telling us we have the highest partisipation rate in the country for 14-34 yr olds playing Aussie rules, how do the afl protect a aussie rules region? well they let ch9 ram rugby league down our necks!. we are constantly having it rammed down our necks, I USED to follow league years ago but have absoloutly no interest in it anymore, and as a mater of fact some m8s of mine where once die hard league fans, but couldn't give a toss about it any more, its a crap game that is dying ang the only thing that is keeping it alive is ch9. look at the lack crowds, the lack of interest from one time fans. Is this where the afl is heading?, the afl has just invested a large amount of money in the game up here, only to have its broadcaster ramming its compeditor down or necks.
so today I spent watching videos with the kids and next sunday I think we'll go fishing, the footy's gone but atleast the fishing is good.
once was a football town.

MMad. Don't just get mad, get even. Write to the AFL and the broadcasters and tell them how you feel.

The time is right, they are super sensitive re the broadcast issues at the moment.

was in Qld in Sept and nth territory the previous Oct so I know what you are talking about. The (real) footy coverage sucks, you don't realize how much we get down South. thank goodness for the web eh?

Magpiemad, I lived in Darwin for 20 odd years, in fact, I still have a brother up there, and I can totally relate to your problem.

You will find that the movers and shakers at Ch8 are in fact from Sydney, therefore, the reason why RL gets priority.

You could always go to Marrara and watch whatever game they have on the big screen.

Then again, Darwin television is the perfect excuse for getting cable .......
