Anti-WorkChoice protest fills Melbourne streets
September 26, 2007
THOUSANDS of Victorian workers and hundreds of children are marching through central Melbourne to protest against the Federal Government's industrial relations laws.
About 20,000 people had joined the rally this morning, which marched from Trades Hall to Flinders St in the city.
Authorities have warned motorists to avoid the area, as the protest brought CBD traffic to a standstill.
Outside the Victorian Trades Hall, the workers were chanting for Prime Minister John Howard to resign, and calling for their children's futures to be saved from the Work Choices laws.
Workers and families were among the marchers, with mounted police and foot patrols monitoring the march.
Victorian Trades Hall Council secretary Brian Boyd said he was surprised at the turnout.
"I've just chaired a meeting of forty or fifty thousand going all the way up to Bourke St from Flinders St," Mr Boyd said.
"We started with about 25,000 at Trades Hall and people have joined along the way."

Atleast this time they will have the opportunity to over exagerate the numbers marching. Unlike their "fill the MCG" where they finally got found out and couldn't over inflate the numbers attending. |

Any pubs and bars along the route would be rubbing their hands together. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Good to see they're involving the people who really know what they stand for!
Here are some of the chants the excited kids came up with:
"1,2,3,4, we don't know what we're marching for"
"What do we want? Lollies! When do we want them? NOW!"
"Muummm I wanna go home!"
Oh well. At least they're getting fresh air and exercise I suppose. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Uh one problem...
how could they possibly know the election date?
I hope Howard gets re-elected, but for some reason, snowball's chance in hell is a phrase that's springing to mind at the moment. Still, am I the only one who's already sick of Kevin07? The guy's driving me up the wall. And to think we'd have to put up with at least three years of that _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Children as young as 3 are used to gain political points today. What does that achieve and what effect on the childs development?
I would like to see a long term study on the education and employment outcomes of this group compared to a control.
Anyone looking to do a PHD? _________________ Born, Live and Die a Magpie |

They get to spend day with their mother, father or both. Grow up normal and well adjusted. Can I be Dr London Dave now? |

The protests are about these children's future.
As there was no violence, no confrontation with police and very little chance of such confrontation then I don't see a problem.
Much worse things in this world for young kids to be exposed to. Check Burma. |
