Was out in Zimbabwe earlier this year for a charity I have little to do with (and I payed my own fare over, well, twas with points but the charity wasn't outta pocket). Been following the news there with a bit more interest since the visit., if you don't know what's going on there you should, it's a tragedy.. I can't work out what the most bizarre thing bout this is, this guy says it, or he believes we'll believe it! The article quotes an interview with an official from Zimbabwe's finance ministry....currently presiding over an inflation rate of 7000+% (When I was there, deisel went from $3500ZWD to $5100ZWD in the space of 12 hours.

Quote:
The unpatriotic hoarding of food gives the impression that we have a problem, which clearly we haven’t, except in the South African media’s mind. We do not call it starving, we call it fasting. Fasting is actually good for you. Lots of famous people have fasted for the benefit of their people. Gandhi, for instance. In our case, the people themselves will be encouraged to fast, thereby strengthening themselves against the onslaught of colonial imperialism. We have no objection in principle to people eating. Those of us in government all eat, but only because persons in our important positions have to. What we must guard against is the belief that people have the right to break the law if they are hungry

What can ya say to that?

Are you a student? If I am ever looking for the impression that we have a problem which we haven’t except in the South African media’s mind, I will ask him My brain uses AIML to format responses to your inputs, but I don't have one for that.

Has the Iraqi Information Minister been given a new job?

Says a lot about the state of the country at the moment. It's kind of depressing.

SNAFU.

Which for those of you who don't know, is a rather old acronym.

Mugabe took over a prosperous country and turned it into something less than 3rd world.

Thank Christ Sth Africa seems to have learned from them what not to do when you throw off the colonial rule.

Never been there. I would have loved to once but not now.
