Quote:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Cosmetic procedures billed as "vaginal rejuvenation," "designer vaginoplasty" or even "revirgination" are not medically necessary and are not guaranteed to be safe, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists cautioned on Friday.

Quote:
The procedures include changing the shape or size of the labia, "restoring" the hymen, and tightening the vagina

Quote:
Dr. Abbey Berenson, who helped write the guidelines, said some women may be fooled by deceptive marketing practices into thinking they need the surgery because they are somehow abnormal.

"Many women don't realize that the appearance of external genitals varies significantly from woman to woman," Berenson said in a statement.

ACOG noted that a growing number of doctors are offering the procedures.

"Some of these procedures, such as 'vaginal rejuvenation,' appear to be modifications of traditional vaginal surgical procedures for genuine medical conditions," ACOG said in a statement.

Personally, I like my vaginas clean and uncut

That is true Tess but what the article refers to is women doing it purely for cosmetic reasons, not because of any abnormality or deformation, just going for a different 'look'. It's absurd

Reminds me of a joke (sort of updated version)

A particular Hollywood socialite has had lots of plastic surgery over the years in order to stay looking young. Unfortunately, she'd been very very promiscuous over the years and the "downstairs" area had taken a bit of a beating so she decided to go in and have it tidied up.

Keeping in mind the sensitivity of the surgery, she made gave the surgeon explicit orders that no one was to know why she was there.

After the surgery, she woke up in her private room to see a huge bunch of flowers on the bedside table and threw a complete tantrum.

The doctor came running in and she screamed at him that no one was supposed to know what was going on.

The doctor replied, "please it's OK. Trust me. The flowers are from a patient in the burns ward called Bill, he just wanted to say thank you for his new ears"

The Beijing Olympic Committee seem to like the shape of them and have built the Olympic Stadium based on one.

These "procedures" are great for woman that may have been brutally raped, had a bad child birth or just for some reason not been able to keep the natural elasticity down there.

Not all of us are born into the perfect and for some even the correct body, please don't be so judge-mental.

True, I guess we forget that since there's a lot of people getting some of this stuff done just so they could be considered "perfect" or whatever other reason they have it. Though I guess if someone from a religion for example leaves that religion they might have it done to fix whatever has been done to them.

I wasn't knocking anyone, I know there are a few in the world that would require this done due to perhaps a birth defect, or as you said bad child birth, or being brutally raped.

Oh I know, I just wanted to say that as bad as it was (and it was a bad attempt, it's obvious.) that it wasn't meant to offend. Very Happy

It's almost scary that the new show "Californication" just had a woman on there saying she was thinking of getting it done..though she was also talking about getting her breasts done as well.

I can understand why a woman with legitmate reasons for wanting it done would want it done, but for pure cosmetic reasons, then I question it.

Almost like breast reconstruction surgury,I understand why a woman who has had a lumpectomy done would want her breasts re done, but a woman who is just sick of her boobs and wants them to look like they did 35 years ago, then I question the motive.

I dunno... is it safe to say that there's a bit of an obsession with body image these days?

Just wonder if people spend too much time worrying about how their body looks rather than focussing on their personalities.

You can't market school, conversations, and life-experience... But you CAN market quick-fix cosmetic treatments.

Capitalism, it has an unlimited number of shitty consequences!
