This isn't hot, this is nice.

Internet banking finally came good, transferred some money to my day account, withfres some case, took the trailer to the tip and called into Bunnings on the way home while I had the trailer on. Grabbed some timber and laserlite so I can re-do the front verandah.

I'll keep an eye on the weather forecast though before I start pulling the current verandah down, there was a couple of blokes at Bunnings trying to buy timber in "cubits", apparently there's some serious rain due.

I noticed your lunch came on a bread board. Did your drink also come in a jar? Razz

No, drinks were self service from the fridge, cans or bottles.

If you wanted to be uber trendy though, they had a tap where you could pour yourself an enamel mug of tap water for free.

Ripping Indian food. I've been eyeing off an Indian restaurant from our lounge window for weeks now threatening to go there. Well worth the wait!

Of course, this was preceded by two pints at one of my locals: http://nagsheadreading.com/home.php

Mucking round on the PS3 yesterday, was getting the shits up as everything seemed to need an update but the WIFI kept dropping out.

So this morning I went to Dick Smith and picked up a WIFI Extender. Simple as to set up, works a treat.

OMFG REALLY?

I had our pc guy here yesterday, cos ive bought and returned 3 different ones. the last is a billion to match my router. I tried for at least 4 bottles of wine on and off last year, and cant get the £$%$er to work.

he says "it works on the wire" I said that's great if I want to sit at the kitchen bench" oh "and I got it to do that too!"

he couldn't get it to work either. he took it home and hes coming back - god knows when, he just knocks randomly. he lives across the street and round the corner, hes a weird bugger. I wouldn't be surprised if he shot up a smoke signal.

all this to get an xbox box working fast enough upstairs. hopefully the ipad will work better in the toilet too

cheers

(hic - wine, wine is making me happy, actually not really, its stopping, sorry, helping me do taxes )

now I remember what I was goimng to say, what brand/model did you get

I got a Belkin N600 from Dicks for $99.

To set it up:

1. Plug it into a power point.
2. Using smart phone (or tablet, or laptop) scan for WIFI and connect to the Belkin
3. Once connected to the Belkin, open a browser window and type in a URL that lets you do the set up.

Basically you connect the extender to your home WIFI, enter in password as required and bingo bango bungo, job done. The longest part of the job was using double sided tape to mount a powerboard up on the wall to give the thing some height.

Yeah I tried that one, (or maybe the model before, it was last year)didn't make it upstairs past the steel beams

You didn't really tape a power board to the wall?

Yeah, course I did. I wanted to get the doodad up higher than power point level. What's wrong with that?

Speaking of wifi stories.....

Over the years I have used various combinations of expensive ADSL Modems and Routers and my Internet connection has always dropped out every second day using them. Whenever one device died, I would replace it with a high-end model of another brand that had good reviews, but the drop outs continued.

About 2 months ago, I saw a fairly dated Netgear Modem with a built-in Router on 'Catch of the day' for $30 which I brought as a joke. It arrived and was set up about 4 weeks ago, and my Internet connection hasn't dropped out once. Only annoying thing is that the Internet seems noticeably slower.

Haha that's apt!

Well my tech guy got a new machine, set it up at home in 45 sec, took him a good 15 min here! He doesn't know why! But he got it running, took it upstairs, found the best place and its lightning fast everywhere now, so that's brilliant!

And I'm not drunk!

Stui can help you with that. Invite him over, but be sure to tell him casual is OK but he is not to arrive empty handed or in bare feet. Smile
