After spending yesterday working from home with the lurgy, made the call to just write off the week and take sick leave. I don't mind doing a few emails when I'm off sick but I can't justify in my own head being working from home and doing far call, so just letting the boss know I'm taking sick leave for today and tomorrow means one less thing to worry about. Takes pressure off.

Flying to Darwin friday morning for 4 nights. Booked a car and a jumping croc cruise with https://www.adelaiderivercruises.com.au/, the home of Brutus and Dominator, ducked over to Greensie to get a cover for the tablet (that 30 minutes confirmed the decision to be on sick leave), updated the Qantas entertainment app on the tablet and was happy to see Avengers End Game is on the movie list for the flight. Very Happy

I'm dosed to the eyeballs on Codral but hoping the heat and some salt water will speed the recovery.

Staying at Palms City Resort which is a 3 minute stagger from the Hotel Darwin where I'll be watching the Pies game Friday night . Same place I stayed last time but having the car gives me options to sight see differently.

Looking forward to the break.

Enjoy, sounds good, hope you recover before you go.

Sitting on the ship off of Santorini right now, one of the places I really wanted to visit. Unfortunately so did a few mill others! Up in the old town, hubby says this is hell, I said yup, let’s get outta here!
Went back to the ship port, really good to see most people take the gondolas not the donkeys, poor things.
Went to Olympia yesterday, really amazing. Just mind boggling. Tons of people there too but so well controlled. Got heaps of shots with none or very few people in them!
Sad driving out to Olympia, some amazing old plantation houses left to rot, heaps of them, hundreds of rotting old buildings, and homeless people at their doors. Judging by the news here parts of Europe, Greece and Italy especially are in some dire straits. I think it’s Athens tomorrow. Hopefully it’s not too hot. Bloody hard limping around on my stuffed ankle in 35-40 deg heat! Been away just over three weeks now, ready to go home!
I loved Germany and Austria, and the non city parts of England, the rest is just too full on! Pushy buggers Europeans! Loud and passionate. Saw 2 porters have a massive punch up when we first got on the ship, one carted off for stitches! Very old fashioned in someways, when I got ignored at a bar a couple of times I spoke up, got strange looks and said in Australia women have equal rights! Met a hand full of Aussies on the boat, and a couple of Scottish ladies who are fabulous, the mum lives in Florida now and the daughter in a London! Had dinner with them and a couple from Sydney who have been in England for a while, their 2 sons play county cricket.
As usual there is way to much food, but the fresh salads and fruit are amazing! So is the pizza! Cheers

Currently cruising at a height of 11.5km, and only 1300km to go before landing at Darwin.

Plane was late leaving and has a busted entertainment system. This plane has the screens in the seat back so the entertainment app doesn't work.

But, free WIFI does, so I can surf the net or watch Foxtel or Netflix on my tablet .

Well after a week of appointments and assessments finally got the approval for mum to have a balloon dilatation of her upper trachea next week.

She has 50% narrowing so talking and breathing is very difficult and her quality of life atm is shite - hopefully it will help!

I've got everything crossed!

Waiting to fly home. Yes HOME!
It’s been great, was so good to see where I came from and the places I remember, but it made me realize why my parents moved here.
Germany and Austria have a piece of my heart,
The rest made me thankful for the Aussie way of life, although Germany and England have great roads, trucks, cars and sensible speed regs (no signs needed, just common sense, it’s all uniform) the other countries made me truly thankful for the nanny state! Same with the smoking laws.
It’s been an experience for sure, but damn I can’t wait to walk in our front door to the kids and dogs and my own bed!
My first trip on an Aussie passport, and now I truly realize how lucky I am to live in the lucky country!
Cheers

Go Pies!

This Danish blue cheese!

I love the stuff, but rarely buy it, I get it free every night at work. Saw some at my local deli today and felt like some... oh yeah, imported from The dairy Viking in Denmark... it's ten times better than any I've had in years, delicious!!

Not happy with the cold weather, but happy I've just had the break in Darwin.

Heat, slow pace, unload all the stresses and click into cruise control. Wake up in the morning and think, "what will I do today?" Think about it over breakfast, then just do stuff spontaneously, no pressure.

Walked 40km in 5 days according to the step counter, ate, drank, swam, walked, relaxed. The head cold is well gone as is the stresses you build up from work and just living.

I also liked messing with people's heads. They look at me, long unkept hair, beard and sunburnt face, first reaction is homeless bum or something, so I stick on the educated accent and watch reactions change.

Did a walk up to one of the flashier steak houses in Darwin, Char. Had the jeans and a nice shirt on but combine that with the head it's a non sequiter. I asked for a table for 1 and fully expected to be put out back near the dunny or something as it was Saturday night and the town was full of people for the last nights of the Darwin Festival.

Nup, got a prime seat out front on the Esplanade, excellent service and one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. First time I've tried Wagyu, it was cooked perfect. Charred on the outside with a crust, and the inside was all the same consistency, pink all the way through but cooked and juicy as.

Stuffed up my timing in that I thought I was flying home Tuesday, but the flight was booked for Wednesday. Problem was, the hotel and car were only booked until Tuesday. Extend the car, got a cheap room for the night at the Casino resort. Happy accident. If they weren't doing renovations outside I wouldn't have got the room so cheap, but stunning place to stay. Had a swim in the infinity pool overlooking the sea, then laid back with a drink while a fat bloke had his 4 girls with barely there bikinis doing a photo session in the pool while I had a ring side seat.

I still prefer the Daintree to Kakadu, but something about the landscape does speak to me and I love the weather and laid back attitude of Darwin.
