Apparently better cold Laughing Or even better - in the bin!
Could be ok for cooking I guess. If a red's better cold, it's not a nice red.

Speaking of trips.

Spoke to the new boss on Friday, got approval for some leave.
Double checked last night cos a few things are going wonky, offered to delay for a week, nah all good.
This morning, got online and booked 4 nights in Port Douglas and 1 in Cairns starting next Friday Very Happy
This arvo, things getting wonkier, boss asks if i could put the leave back by a week as offered. Said, sorry, i just paid a deposit on the accommodation. All good, I'm off. Very Happy

1 day at home, 5 nights in FNQ, then 4 at home before back to work in my old job. I'll have a longer break later in the year, I just really need to be able to reset my brain after near 5 months of acting up. The new boss is in, and she's great, and even though I'm trying to help orient her, there's so much shit i can't handover so I'm approving stuff I'm not delegated to and dealing with stuff I shouldn't. Just got to get away, hit reset on the brain and come back.

Place I stay in Port is expensive, but it's across the road from the beach, shops in short walking distance and i have an upstairs apartment with a balcony facing the ocean. I can sit on the balcony with a 6 pack and/or a bottle of red, feel the ocean breeze, hear the waves, and just chill.

happy little Vegemite Very Happy

Sounds loooooovely!
Out of interest, what's your definition of expensive (roughly)? I always figure holidays are what you work for so spend up! (Hotel I stayed at in Dubai was $1200 per night! Shocked) Can't remember what New York hotel cost but was going halves with a semi tight arse so I paid to upgrade to 1 bedroom with a balcony. Thought NY was expensive until I had to book hotels in Europe!! Crazy expensive shoe boxes!

Bit of a ramble! Have a great time & hopefully the weather does the right thing Smile

Each to their own! I like it cos it's sweet, like me,

I don't like tart bitter wines

Cheers Chris,

$400 per night is expensive, for Port Douglas, but worth it for the view.

Paying more for exactly what you want is always worth it. Don't want to go on a well earned break & hate where you're staying.

Yes each to their own indeed - personally I don't like sickly sweet fruity wines.

"Banrock Station has become famous for two things, making affordable wines and their strong support for environmental matters. All the wines in the Banrock Range punch above their weight and this Cabernet is a perfect example. Its lifted in red berry fruits with attractive florals, before a creamy palate of smooth tannins and a longish finish. Makes for good mid-week quaffing with barbecued meats or a plate of mature cheeses."

always well received when we have parties. reminds me of Brown Brothers Cienna, another red I prefer chilled. Brown brothers produce quite a few nice, sweet reds. And one hell of a port! dry reds we drink at room temperature.

I've never been fussed about 'how it's supposed to be done" or the price tag, I just know what I like.

Cheers

^ Agreed and have tried their wines - just don't like them at all and really don't like sweet reds - huge massive yuk for me but whatever floats your boat as long as I don't have to indulge is all good!

Wold Blasse red label cab shiraz for me as an everyday drinking red.

If i want to go up market, I'll go the pepperjack.

Have to try that one. Cheers

pepperjack is nice, my sister in law drinks a lot of it.

I can't remember the last time I bought a bottle of wine. Years ago camping by the river in yakandandah on a dairy farm, a friend had the banrock, and she would let it float in the river! It was magnificent in 40 degree heat!

If I'm choosing I'll go Brown bros, and I always take it to dinner at a friends.

I prefer scotch or bourbon to be honest, doesn't give me a headache! I have no tolerance to wine these days.

Shocked Question

Not a shiraz fan, too peppery for me. A nice pinot or a bold cabernet sauvignon for mine, or a blend of all of them. If really lashing out, a Penfolds St Henri or Bin 389 (which is a shiraz but much smoother than most).
