Ring CGu and tell them that you do not intend to renew while they remain the only insurer not to do the right thing and pay out the flood victims.
All insurers have paid up. Why does CGU consider themselves to be outside popular opinion.
They must be forced to pay and as the government has no authority to force them, public opinion is the only way.

It appears that anyone can provide feedback to this company, I encourage you all to help a fellow Australian and fill in this form;

probably could have chosen a different phrase there, popular opinion means jack.

What will have an impact is people who are currently insured with them threatening to take their policies to a competitor who displays some sense of morals, where they know they'll be treated fairly if they have the misfortune to lodge a claim after paying premiums for years.

True, the phrase "industry standard" would be more useful.

Still I encourage all citizens to contact CGU and not their displeasure. Future as well as present earning are a concern for all industries.
Tonight on the news they highlighted an 80 year old grandmother who is sleeping on a concrete floor on a damp foam mattress because CGU refuse to admit to their obligations.

Got a reply to the email today.
Here it is;

Quote:
Dear David,
We acknowledge the receipt of your email regarding the Gippsland storms in June 2007.
CGU Insurance has received more than 200 claims from the Gippsland region. We are paying the vast majority of these claims as they are the result of storm damage.

We moved quickly to assist our customers when the deluge hit and helped many find temporary accommodation while repairs are underway.

In a very small percentage of cases, the damage was a result of flooding and like most general insurers, CGU’s standard home and business insurance policies do not provide flood cover.

CGU assessed each claim on its individual merits and employed independent loss adjusters and hydrologists prior to reaching our claims decisions.

A senior claims manager individually contacted these customers to explain that their claims were not covered as the damage was the result of flooding and this is being followed up by a letter.

We also ensure that our decisions are inline with the coverage provided under the individual policies. All coverage and exclusions are clearly stated in our policies.

Flood is not only an issue for insurers, but for the whole community. Coverage for mainstream flooding would be prohibitively expensive for those in high-risk areas, such as those in flood plains or in dry creek beds. Absorbing or sharing the cost of providing this cover would force insurance premiums to increase.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Tufrey,

Funny how they did not address the fact that other insurers paid all claims. With a bit of push and shove from the State Government of course.
Anyone else get this email? I would be interested to know if it is just another "form".
