gloria jeans and starbucks are very ordinary and a last resort. when int town i always venture down to degraves st for a good brew. maybe surprisingly but the HQ stand at spencer street station is good value.

gravity and caffe lafarre are good solid brands over here.

I've never heard of either of those. Where can you get them?

It's funny how Gloria Jean's has absolutely shit coffee but the other drinks they make are ace. I usually get the mint choc bomb.

When I drink coffee it's short black, sometimes a double, so I need the coffee to be good and not too bitter.

Probably my favourite cafe at the moment I don't know the name of or if it has one, it's on Burke Rd Camberwell, but on the south side of Riversdale rd away from the main hectic bit. About 200m up the hill, opposite a church. Friendly owner/barista and good Grinders coffee.

in wellington, nz. i think lafarre is exporting. i used to bag the coffee here but it is not bad these days. after my most recent experiences i am of the opinion melbourne coffee making has declined somewhat.

After my trip to Port Douglas, and the surrounding distrct, I can say I have found the best coffee.

Visited "The Coffee Works" in Mareeba in the Atherton Tablelands in FNQ, (far North Queensland) and tasted 21 Coffees...... YUMMY!

The best by far is the Black Mountain, and very strong expresso and for someone who has double shot long blacks, it was heaven!

I sure did Stui, wished I was staying an extra week! Did a lot, but not the reef trip this time, it got windy the day before we were to go, and talking to the locals, they all said it would be murky for a few days!

Met 2 pies in Cairns, and had a great bbq at there place to watch the game on Friday night, great people, but sad game!

I was in heaven with the coffee tasting, and brought some Black Mountain back home to try in my machine.

Thanks for the tip Kaylene. My housemate (you met him at last years Sydney trip - boyfriend at the time), loves double shot long blacks and is always complaining that he needs to find a decent coffee in Sydney. I'll buy him some of this stuff so we can try it out in the new coffee machine at home Smile

Good to see you had a good trip up "our way" Kaylene! I've heard alot about the Coffee works in Mareeba. Will have to take a bike ride up the road to visit. (now that the local copper there has been transferred Laughing ...its a looooong story!)

Does that in part explain the issue with the local Mareeba cop? Razz

I'd love to do the road from Palm Cove to Port Douglas as a closed run, with no other trafiic at all. Ehh, but in someone elses car. Embarassed That's the most deranged piece of road I've even been on.
