You're mortgage of course.
By the news reports tonight it appears that Howard's promise will be broken for the 7th time in a row. |

You get used to it is probably more to the point. I don't think there's anyone left who believes anything he's got to say. _________________ - "Number 42? I see you've got Darren Millane in the Heaven footy side"

Every time interest rates rises are mentioned,Howard blames the labor state governments for borrowing from the federal government then proceeeds to tell everyone that the current interests rates are 5 points lower now than they were under the last labor government.
Thing he forgets is in the past 11 years, the economy has grown, people have more incomes, the interest rates 11 years ago were comparative to the situation at the time.Current interests aren't.
If only they would cut the fuel excise, which is the biggest contributing factor to the increase of the CPI,thus decreasing the CPI,thus reducing risk of an inflation blow out and interest rates would be stable! _________________ Collingwood:Not just a club, but a way of life!

Sorry to burst your bubble Magpies girl but it is the increase in the price of crude oil not any change in fuel excise that contributes to the rise in the CPI, thus putting pressure on interest rates. The excise rate is static at just under 40 cents per litre. You could soften some of the impact of the rise in crude prices by cutting excise, but cutting taxes is itself inflationary because people tend to spend rather than save (also, given the environmental impact do we want to encourage more petrol consumption by cutting petrol costs anyway?). If you want to find the reason for interest rate rises have a look at the inflationary impact of Howard/Costello's tax cuts and their $7.5 billion worth (so far) of election promises. |

I agree with Nomad. It's not excise, it's the constant increase in fuel prices, which I guess leads from the Iraq war, and greed from oil companies, which is leading to it.
Gee, and they wonder why people don't want to buy houses anymore. _________________ Insert useless signature here -----> |
