News on sunrise is that Michael Rasmussen has been kicked off his team in the Tour de France.

This means Aussie Cadel Evans is now second overall.

MICHAEL Rasmussen has been kicked out of the Tour de France by his Rabobank team, dealing the 2007 race a potentially fatal blow.

Rasmussen, 33, had seemingly weathered the storm about his missing four out-of-competition dope tests in the past 18 months, winning stage 16 overnight to all but seal overall victory and go some way to erasing the stigma of the Danes over their disgraced 1996 Tour de France winner Bjarne Riis - who has since been stripped of the title.

But Rasmussen's Dutch team - whose hotel has been raided and searched by French police - has learned that the rider lied about his whereabouts and activity during June .

The Dane told team officials he was in Mexico when he was in fact in Italy.

"He broke team rules," team spokesman Jacob Bergsma said.

"It is not even sure if the team will carry on in the race."

Tour de France race director Christian Prudhomme - who previously berated International Cycling Union (UCI) president Pat McQuaid for not informing the organisers about Rasmussen's missed tests - said that he and his co-directors of the race could not have done much more.

"We did all we could do to get rid of him," Prudhomme said.

"I at the very least do not feel that I have been dishonoured.

"One cannot mock the Tour de France impunitively like those riders."

Prudhomme was referring to Rasmussen, Cristian Moreni - who was also thrown off the race today, after failing a drugs test - and Alexandre Vinokourov, who was thrown out yesterday.

Rasmussen won two stages during the Tour, but his presence on the race had been questioned by several officials as well as the race organisers.

His departure leaves young Spaniard Alberto Contador in the yellow jersey, with Australian rider Cadel Evans second

I've got an idea, instead of bothering with a cycle race, just get each country to put up a team of chemists. They can have a two week competition in a Lab and whichever team comes up with the best performancing enhancing drugs and masking agents gets the prize.

Same end result.

People who drink alcohol or smoke weed have mental problems. Evidence = aceofstace/pica/Magpie 24. Kew Cottages was their second home.

Proof! Show me proof before you assassinate the name of a champion.
Make the allegation, burden of proof is upon you.

Cycling is like pro-wrestling.

Of course it is genuine.

Why only concentrate on the Tour de France and no other races?

Harder to detect the drugs.

If it looks like a drug and cheat and walks like a drug cheat, it isnt Eddie Merckz.

I have no burden of proof. He hasnt successfully sued anyone who has acccused him of being a drug cheat. Wonder why? Rolling Eyes

Because he is a multi millionaire and cannot be bothered.
I wonder how many people Eddie would have to sue if he worried about baseless allegations?
You say you have no burden of proof because you hide behind a keyboard while making these allegations.
Very brave.
