They do inside the building. I'm not sure about outside. Ironically, if I'd actually been untrustworthy, I could have simply said I was taking one and no-one would have known any different. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I was back in less than 5 minutes (this was 12:30 in the morning). She or someone else must have told a manager, because I was called up today and told that leaving the premises during a shift was unacceptable, that as a result they considered me untrustworthy and that my employment would have to be terminated.
I had only been working there for two weeks and was due to have my induction today. I had no idea it was against the rules to leave the building during a shift, particularly considering that one of our nightly jobs (to be completed at least three times between 11pm and 7am) is to walk out to the hotel carpark and check the boiler temperature. During the shift in question my co-worker took several smoke breaks out the front that lasted at least as long. It was a real shock and quite gutting considering how long I'd been looking for a job. |
That sounds appalling.
Can you appeal?
Can you seek to clarify & present your end of the story?
Can you apply for unfair dismissal ?
Do they know you sought advice from someone else before you acted? _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I'd say she set you up.
I don't think you have much protection under the law so just move on |

That's pretty bloody average David
Were they pleased with your work and were you happy working there?
If so write to the Manager and explain the situation and tell them how much you enjoyed working there and would it be possible for you to be given a second chance now you know the rules - nothing ventured nothing gained they can only say no! And they will have to through the hassle of finding someone else - so fingers crossed!
And if it works out don't trust the co-worker ever again _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” |

Yeah, write up the whole incident like you're giving a statement to Police and go over the head of the 'manager'. You wont make any friends, but middle management are so often douchebags and conniving bitches are a dime a dozen too.
As for unfair dismissal, you need to work for 6 months in a business more than 15 employees and 1 years in a small business to be eligible for unfair dismissal under federal laws. |

Wowee, that's disgraceful. Who needs the Soviet Block when you've got psychotic nutters like that having control over your life?
As dejecting as it feels, it's got nothing to do with you, so try to take the personal affront out of it for your own sake (easy to say, hard to do). People like Stui, WPT and Proud Pies will know how to deal with it technically; make the bastards wear it! _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

This.
I'd start from the position that you aren't going to get the job back regardless but at least by doing this you'll be heard and provide something for the manager to be held to account against.
If you do somehow convince the more senior manager that you deserve the job back, you have to consider if you actually want to work with people like that.
If it's a hotel that has a website or is owned by a largish company which has one, use that also as a means of giving feedback. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Highlighted part for me.... Shows what sort of company it is, and what your workmates are like. I wouldn't be interested in working there after that. |

I agree. I need a job, but I don't need one where I'm going to be treated terribly. Even if they gave me my job back, this kind of overreaction doesn't augur well at all. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Sometimes we have to stfu and put our heads down and just work go home and smile when we look at the bank balance going up. Then again I'm older a generation away from you maybe work has changed and we don't have to start at the bottom anymore. |
