3. Clarky - best debut in history. 20 possies on the big stage after just 9 games with Willi in a sport he'd never played this time last year. That game could easily have been his fiftieth. Many Swans didn't play as well.

2. Moneybags - Literally gets better with each game. Attack on the ball and skills are unbelievable for a five-gamer. Doesn't look like he could hold down a place with the East Keilor under 12s and toweled up Mickey O'Lauchlin, one of the best forwards in the game like he was a beginner.

1. Sorry, just can't do it this week. It has to be shared:

Wakes: What a game, Hall's only goals were way too late to make a difference. All the 'pundits' predicted a huge return to form, but Wakes ran him round til he couldn't even take a chest mark.

Pendles: In and under all night, tackled like a guy twice his size and adapted his game to suit the circumstances. This kid is a true gun, not many can play a different game if their usual style isn't working. Pendles did last night with 7 tackles and countless one percenters

Daisy: Ran all night and kicked beautifully, unlike the other forwards. This kid has more time than a rock formation, skills and tackling are first class, and his enthusiasm is beautiful to watch

Guy Richards: Spider who? Easily his best game in the black and white. Spider and Jolly should have destroyed him, but he kept at it, going in hard and tackling beautifully.
Maxy: How hard is this kid!? Still a bub, but certainly one of the backline leaders, tackling and punching like a 25 year old 200 gamer.

Heater: What needs to be said? In a season or two we will have the best backline the games ever seen, despite the impending retirement of Jimmy, Wakes and Presty, and Heater will be its general along with Swanny, Maxy and Harry. His one-percenters were awesome. Really gotta find a way of rewarding these, they are winning us games.

Tarks: Had to do multiple jobs and handled them all brilliantly. Get a good price for the Brownlow while you can. Must've run twenty Ks.

Burnsy: As good as he's played at the moment. The kids are giving him a new lease, his toughness and endurance are magnificent. His skills are as good as any, and he's thriving on the never-say-die spirit the boys are displaying which is the best I've seen in 40 years as a rabid magpie. Reminding me a lot of Tuddy in his attack on the pill.

Cheesy: Another veteran in career best form. Seems to be in the top three possy gatherers every week, and disposal has improved remarkably. One of the best tackler in the game.

Johnno: Playing beautifully, another relative veteran infected by the spirit of a truly inspired side. Penetrating kicks into the 50 all night.

Dids: Lots of beautiful, silky touches, always comes to the fore when it matters, a real future leader who seemed to be almost playing an old-fashioned ruck-rover role. Didn't get a ton of the ball, but what he did was exceptional.

Neon: I know, sounds daft as he only had 6 possies, but he had dozens of one-percenters and seemed to be under every pack. Finally playing accountable football, and playing like a leader.

Travis is very unlucky as he was one of the best on ground, but I just can't reward a guy kicking 4.1. in a team whose one real problem area is kicking for goal. Same goes for my boy Pebbles. To be a truly great team our forwards need to convert set shots most times and stop letting the backs down. 50-50 is not god enough from simple shots, let alone 30-70. Lets get some specialist kicking coaches in, perhaps from Rugby Union?

Anyway, the point is that this 3-2-1 crap is anathema to the absolutely unbelievable team footy this team is playing every week. They are just getting better as the season progresses. How these kids are playing such a tough, confident, accountable game is quite beyond me. Several look like they'd snap in half if bumped heavily but are playing like a team of WWF wrestlers who can run! I can only surmise that the coaching staff are doing their jobs incredibly well, led by Mickelangelo who is handing the kids seemingly impossible tasks every week, and inspiring them with the confidence he is showing in their ability, work ethic, and pure team spirit. These guys have the look of being better than the 1990 team, with their brand of tough, accountable, disciplined footy, and have no egos or showboats among them.

In fact the last time I saw a team who could play like this, they had names like Thompson, Jenkins, McKenna, Richardson, Waters, Tuddenham, Dunne, Price and Potter, and they weren't scrawny teenagers!. And for those of you who can remember those teams, how much does Pendles remind you of a certain J. Greening??? (perhaps we should rest him for the StKilda game?).

I've never been as proud to be a magpie as I am right now, it's a privelege to watch these boys, and they could be the dominant team of the next five years. They only need to continue as they are doing right now (and kick a bit straighter) and the premiership really WILL be a cakewalk for the good old Colling-wood!

Go PIES!!!
