Good article and this may have been posted somewhere else. All I can say is Local football may not have the pace and skill of AFL, but what it lacks there it makes up in hardness. You cannot hide in local football, you will be found out. Drinks with players and officials and umpires after the game. Suburban football is getting bigger. Get along to a game near you and tell us what you think.

Good read. I enjoy not only playing but watching the local leagues.

Canberra has its own senior comp, but we also have a lower-skilled 'country' league, which I played in last season, which involves smaller suburbs and country towns around Canberra. It's probably the lowest standard of football in Australia, and yet you still get hard at the ball play, big marks, nice goals and good one-on-one contests.

If my eyes were just a little less shite then I would play AFL locally for sure, I was a decent little rover in my youth.

Then during one night game in my 3rd season i remember standing under a pass from a mate and realising that I had absolutely no idea where the ball was.

Didn´t hang around too long after that! lol
