Cole, Cummings set to debut

Exciting Collingwood youngster Richard Cole is set to make his AFL debut under lights in tomorrow night’s season opener against Richmond.

Cole is somewhat of a surprise selection for the first round of the season, considering he had an injury interrupted pre-season with an elbow complaint.

Despite an injury marred final season with the Eastern Ranges in the TAC last year, Cole was still one of the most promising players to be selected in last year’s National Draft.

He was taken with Collingwood’s first selection at No.11 and several astute judges believed had he not been injured throughout 2001, he could have been a contender for the No.1 draft choice.

The Magpies have also named ruckman Josh Fraser and 1999 Coleman Medallist Scott Cummings in the line-up. Cummings is poised to play his first game with his fourth AFL club.

Fraser has had an injury-interrupted pre-season due to osteitis pubis.

Cummings has played 123 games with Essendon, Port Adelaide and the West Coast Eagles, kicking 343 goals since making his debut in 1994.

The burly full-forward showed some promising signs for Collingwood in the Wizard Home Loans Cup and has been given the opportunity to head the Magpies forward line in 2002.

How come Alan Didak is not in the side?
I'd rather have him then Ben Johnson.

And I dont think Shane O'Bree will play. Lets hope Heath Scotland will come in and grab his chance.
