Post subject: Backroom IR campaign deals between Howard govt and business | |

At least the ALP and Trade Union movement are open and up-front about their institutional relationship. Shame business and the Liberal Party can't be quite as honest.
As the linked article from today's age indicates, the business lobby's (led by the BCA and MCA) $10.5 million media campaign against the government's Workchoices (are we still allowed to call it that?) is being led by, wait for it, the same company that does the Liberal Party's election campaigns, and is being overseen by, wait for it again, a former deputy director of the Victorian Liberal Party. According to leaked minutes from a confidential Business Council meeting
Quote: | The group accepted that at least $6.5 million was needed for "a serious campaign" and amounts up to $10.5 million were discussed for the campaign of TV, print, internet and billboard advertising. Advertising will run for five to six weeks, from mid-July into August.
The file note went to Katie Lahey and Mark Triffitt (a former Kennett government media adviser) from the business council, Peter Hendy (who worked for former minister Peter Reith) from the chamber of commerce, and Mitch Hooke and Louise Dodson from the minerals council. |
Amazing to see such close links between big business and the Liberal Party. Would be nice if they were publicly disclosed or people might get the impression that the $10.5 million campaign is little more than Liberal Party advertising paid for by its business mates. Heaven forbid. At least Labor and the unions don't hide their links.

well, that's exactly why we DO have work choices. It was the Howard Governments reward to business for all the donations they had made to the liberal party over the preceeding years. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

I agree to some extent Frank, business is pretty much to the Liberal Party what the unions are to the ALP. So it's not all that surprising that they're working together. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

No, they're business people who weren't good enough to make it, apart from one or two exceptions. |

Funny this. People seem to have the idea that the Employers do not have unions. They most certainly do!
In Victoria, the employers union is "Veeci".
They are very active in making sure the businesses in Victoria are hit up for donations to run a campaign supporting Work(NO)Choices.
Make no mistake, they are prepared to fight hard and dirty to retain such a sweet deal from the Howard Government. |
