TAC Cup 19 Year Old Players

AFL Victoria have determined that TAC Cup 19 year old players should be available for selection in the Under 23 match to assist their assessment by AFL club recruiters. The Under 23 selectors have selected 3 such players in each of the North and South teams. AFL Victoria talent program staff, David Code and Leon Harris, provided recommendations regarding the TAC Cup 19 year old players to the Under 23 match selectors for consideration.

Of the five Williamstown players named in the initial squad, only one made the cut - Brett Johnson. However, with seven named as interchange, there's still no guarantee he'll get a run (unless, of course, the Vics go in with seven interchange).

While you don't get to see all the other VFL teams on a regular basis, and they went in with 4 full forwards in the squad, I'm shocked that Willo wouldn't be an option on the half-forward line, can play small or tall forward, as he's done for Williamstown. Poyas is a mid-fielder playing on the half-forward and Podsiadlly isn't a half-forward flanker (though he can move pretty well, he's more comfortable leading out). And hasn't pods missed a couple of games this year? I know he didn't play against Williamstown.

I bet some people are typing one-handed and using 'Cameron Diaz approved hair gel' with the news that C1 is still included in the squad.

For those that haven't yet heard the result, the Vics gave the WAFL an absolute belting to the tune of 119 points.

WA kicked the first goal of the match at the 8 minute mark of the first quarter, then the VFL kicked the next 15 to be 80 points in front at half time, with the lead blowing out to 98 at the last change.

Nick Sautner kicked 9 (from 12 kicks), whilst Williamstown's sole rep, Brett Johnson, was also amongst the goal kickers and was one of the best players.

VFL: 5.2.32 ~ 15.4.94 ~ 20.6.126 ~ 25.11.161
WAFL: 1.6.12 ~ 1.8.14 ~ 3.10.28 ~ 5.12.42

Goals: VICTORIA: Sautner 9, Berry 4, Byrne, Johnson, Cartledge, Crowe 2, Height, Spriggs, Summers, Podsiadly
