This year on family day the collingwood football club will be conducting a nice little ceremony which we hope will become a yearly event.

'The blessing of the scarves' requires all collingwood supporters to bring along there scarves on family day, we will have clergy on stage to coduct the blessing of the scarves ceremony'so even if it's stinking hot bring the scarf you will be wearing to the footy this year and be a part of this first ever ceremony conducted by an AFL club.

The rest will copy the pies next year dont you worry about that!!

It is a ceremony that has been conducted in europe with great emotion and success.

This was posted with the permission from Andrea (events manager)
collingwood football club.More details shortly to appear on collingwood's official web site.

I'm not going to the family day and im not much of a spiritual person (besides Collingwood of course) but if the great man Peter Daicos can bless the scarves with a bit of his magic then I think that would be a great thing. May not help us win any games but the Collingwood kids having a kick at the G after the game wearing their scarves will be sloting goals from the boundry line im sure.

I've got 3 scarves. I hope there'll be enough Holy Water to go around.

Actually ... I've just thought of a name for each of my scarves.

Just to clarify one point and i feel it's important, the blessing of the scarves has not been celebrated in europe or english football, when this is performed on family day it will be the first time ever (world wide)when the original idea was talked over with my good friend neil i was at the opinion the blessing of the scarves had been celebrated over seas, after further discussion with neil it was discovered it has never been celebrated any where else in the world!!just thought i'd clear that up.

We could expect some huge press coverage if we get the Governor General to do the blessing.

Thanks Joffa,
Any idea what time this blessed event will occur.
Last year took little bam early and by 1.00pm he was knackered and sookey. (Or was that me?)

Hi Bamwalker

The event as i believe at this moment will take place on stage with players present which is kinda good because then then the whole club so to speak will be in attendance.

Thanks mate.

And an idea for Sunday's game against North. Their financial situation is obviously precarious. What I propose is that everyone in the Cheer Squad area wave money notes in the direction of the North players when they are warming up before the match, or even when a North player is lining up for goal.
