I may be ignorant, but what the hell is wrong with what he said?

That is his job is it not? To get the most possible for his members?

Most certainly.
The problem here is that he made it very public that he was laughing at the bosses behind their back. I'm sure the bosses do the same thing when they have a victory over the union movement, but they have the good sense to keep it amongst themselves and definitely not have the comments recorded.
