A BIKIE gang war in Geelong has seen two men shot and several cars and houses sprayed with bullets.

Police have warned the situation has the potential to injure or kill members of the public unless a truce is achieved between the rival Bandido and Rebel bikie groups.

For the past two months the gangs have been locked in payback violence that has seen one man blasted in the knee, another receive a gunshot wound to the lower leg and at least three cars and two houses peppered with bullets.

Geelong police have launched Operation Sedan and are working with Melbourne officers.

"We are very concerned about the violence that appears to be generating between those two motorcycle groups and we have appealed to the groups in our efforts to stem the violence," Geelong CIU Det Sen-Sgt Rod Lloyd said.

"It's only a matter of time before someone is killed or seriously injured and it might not be someone associated with those groups.

"We will be putting measures in place to prevent any further violence escalating."

Det Sen-Sgt Lloyd said the public nature of the shootings meant there was a real danger innocent members of the public could be killed.

Already, a group not linked to the gangs has had two cars shot at.

Det Sen-Sgt Lloyd said police had met gang leaders had made just two arrests.
