There were a number of times when he did the right thing at the right time (e.g. defensive punch, handball), when a mistake or poor effort could have cost us dearly. I was at least as impressed with Cox as I was with the other two, and hopefully he doesn't get dropped.

Nah he wont be dropped, spoke with Shannon yesterday at Willy he wasn't happy with his game..thats a good thing a sure sign of greatness to have a kid in his first game in the toughest position across half back in front of seventy thousand people to not get caught up in the hype and to calmy say i wasnt happy with my game is beautiful.
In a sense watching TV doesnt give you all the positive indicators about how a player goes as you cant see whats going on off the ball
His ability to create the loose man in defence as the pies start to push forward was sensational..at one stage he was barking instructions from half back to team mates when a richmond player had the ball outside fifty, in one moment in the second half he was tight on the boundary the only way out was to baulk it was class and it worked.
Dont worry about this bloke he has all the ingredients of being something special he is laconic and very classy and tough.

Sounds promising - his one handed pick up and delivery late in the game looked pretty composed (liked he thought he belonged on the ground) and a couple of his defensive things looked like he doesn't mind the rough stuff which is the signs of a well rounded player - skills and a heart.

With you there Joff. I got the impression that while he wasn't prominent, he looked comfortable out there in his primary defensive role. He will get his chance to shine--quietly slipping into the team without hype is not a bad thing at all.

He seems to have plenty of poise and is a beautiful build. I was rapt to see him thrown in the middle briefly as well, which demonstrates the coaching staff recognise him as being a very versatile player. I expect to see him have a 10 yr career.

Cox did well for a 1st gamer, but was over shadowed by Toovey & Dick. Still a solid game & can hold his head high & will look forward to seeing more of him in the coming years. As Joffa hinted, he may be the unlucky one to miss out on a 2nd game if enough people come back in, but not thru any fault of his.

Joffa u seem to know alot more about this bloke than most, what position do you seem him claiming his own in the side? Back? Forward? Or is he your typical old utility type allrounder?

Has he kicked many goals in the reserves?

I was really impressed with him on Friday night, in a first game you cant tell alot in terms of skill but he really looked sure of himself. He looks the type who hasnt heard of the word pressure! And thats gold right there.

I think he looks alright this kid, he'll do the disciplined things and work hard for the team. We desperatley need another aggressive young defender, this bloke could be it, and no I wouldn't be dropping him, we need new blood in the back line.

The only concern with Shannon at club level is at times he doesnt believe in himself..there were a couple of times last friday night when he appeared to be lost but was quickly able to re focus and get on with the job.
I reckon he's gonna be an old tough nut type utility player the type that will play well in any position.
He probably should of goaled last friday night but got underneath the ball making it go one hundred miles up with little distance although he was outside fifty and probably just wanted to boot the crap out of it.
He played all his footy in the WAFL up forward im not sure what amount of goals he actually scored...but he's got the build and attitude to play anywhere, for Coxy and the other two lads to play well on a very big stage first up is a good indicator they will only get better.
The future is all good!

With age you tend to lose a few brain cells every year..its been bugging me to death to try and recall who Shannon Cox reminds me of..it's finally hit me after two weeks...he is very similar to ex Brisbane player Daryl White Smile

Saw this kid a couple of times last year for Willi and didn't see much until their last final when he showed a bit. Here is an example of a classy kid who needs to play ones instead of down where the cyclones blow. Today he looked very much composed senior material.

Has reserved his spot in defence for the remainder of the year. A future gun.
