| Rambling or not NA, i agree completely. Especially with regards releasing Heath Shaw. Even if its only for periods within a game, i believe he has to be able to play midfield or else it will be a waste of both his talent and his courage. |

Regarding Heater Zakal, I agree in part. He does need to be able to play Midfield sometimes, but don't under estimate the benefits to a team of having players like Heater providing drive off half back. Most good teams now try to have at least one guy who they could play as a midfield playmaker instead proving rebound off the half back line.
Putting heater into the midfied could actually be a negative for us if we get less drive and rebound off half back.

And, there in the background, we also see Harry wearing his man like a glove. These two players have transformed our backline. I mean, who would have thought that anytime in 2007 we would be sort of wondering what to do with Clement when he returns?
Hell, I'm half inclined to tell Harry he's got the CHB job and tell Goldy he's now a starting 18 defender no matter who else is fit, and play Jimmy on the HF flank! (Hey - he couldn't kick it much crookeder than our current forwards already do.)
From what I also hear, Cox put in another good game today, and Iles played his best-ever senior game, certainly got quite a bit of the footy.
Overall, at this stage of the season, you'd have to say that Goldie is the best of the debutants this year, and that's saying quite a bit when you consider that every one of them has looked a likely prospect (at worst) or a likely 100-game man (at best).

most definetly not.
he was playing his final year in the TAC cup for Gipsland Power.
He was overlooked the year Thomas and Pendlebury got drafted and was lucky to get picked up |

This draft is taking a while to come on as most of the players who went high were KPP's. Along with Joel Selwood, i think Goldsack has been just about the best performed player from last years super draft. At 63, he may well be the biggest steal. Bryce Gibbs has had a very slow start

Picks like Goldsack are where the recruiters really earn their money. Its where having the big dollars and having the scouts on the ground really starts to pay dividends.
Having the amount of scouts that we have allows us to probably look at certain players a little more than what other clubs perhaps are able to and to really do our homework on certain players. |

Exactly....any idiot can select a Cooney, Goddard, Hodge, Reiwoldt etc with a high pick.
In fact, given the media hype about all, most idiots did. (which is what makes it so woeful when these picks turn out to be duds)
But what you really pay the recruiters for is to find 100 gamers in the rounds 2 and beyond, and at 63.....Goldy is that and more.
As for Clement on a HF Flank, i think you may be forgetting just how good Jimmy is. Just like Buckley, its very easy to forget just how classy and dominate a champion player was. Buckley's return against Sydney 2years ago literally made my jaw drop....i'd seen him play for 10 years, but id gotten used to the standard of everyone in the team, and then Bucks runs out....class above.
Goldy is doing fantastic, but he's still a kid. Jimmy is like the rock of Gibralta for our defence....completely dependable, and we know very very very few people can kick goals on him.
Trust mick to be able to put together a defence with about 30 games experience between them that can beat one of the best "on-paper" forward lines in the competition. |

Come on Joel!
I know I'm very biased when it comes to Goldie, but he was super today.
He made one glaring error which led to a goal, but his ability in close with very quick hands and the ability to find space is impressive.
Again today, he did the job he was given and was creative to boot.
What really impresses is his decision making under pressure.
He's earned his spot well and truly and with 'Harry the human blanket' we'll have a backline to contend with. With Clement back, Heath can go to the midfield and Cox can be the ruck-rover/ruckman/wingman.....versatile that Cox!
