Jack back in 2008
Nick Hulett for Collingwood Football Club

Young defender John Anthony will spend the 2007 season recovering from a neck injury sustained at the end of January, but will be back to full health in time for next pre-season.

19-year-old Anthony, nicknamed 'Jack', admits that he is very lucky to have a long career in football still ahead of him, and is extremely positive about his situation and being able to continue playing football. The incident occurred when teammate Sean Rusling accidentally threw Anthony into Martin Clarke’s right shoulder during a tackling drill.

Collingwood's young defender John Anthony will not play again in 2007 as a result of a neck injury sustained in the pre-season.

Collingwood has confirmed that Anthony, who hurt his neck in a collision at training back in February, has been advised by specialists not to risk further injury and to have a nine month lay-off from football.

COLLINGWOOD teenager John Anthony has been cleared to play in 2008 despite being sidelined for the rest of this year with a serious neck injury.

Anthony suffered the injury in late January when teammate Sean Rusling accidentally threw Anthony into Martin Clarke's right shoulder during a tackling drill.

Just wanted to add my wishes for a speedy recovery for Jack. Can't wait to see him in the Black and White stripes in 2008.

Take care JA.

No doubt Jack's hard work and patience will be rewarded by the karma gods in spades.

Good luck JA - you were on the verge this pre-season, so no doubt youll break down the door when you are all-clear, and be a better harder player as a result of this set back.
