For those who a still undecided about Americas involvement in Iraq and for those who have pay television.
Last night i watched a gruesome documentary called Baghdad ER all about the emergency operation rooms for American Soldiers and the Coalition Forces who are injured and killed whilst fighting the insurgence.
It brings home the message what another stupid bloody mess the yanks have dragged everyone into...i have never seen such craziness!! _________________ Football is Greatness

Phew. Saw the title and thought this may have been another "holiday" thread!
Was wondering when we'd be seeing pics of the gold Jacket in Baghdad |

Geez Joffa, sounds like you don't watch a lot of pay tv!
I'm watching the doco now, and haven't seen anything any more gruesome that what is on Monday nights on Discovery (Untold Stories Of The ER, followed by The Critical Hour: Shock Trauma), or any of the forensic shows on CI.
Then again, anyone that joins up in any of the armed forces are itching to shoot the shit out of someone, it's just that they got tagged first. They knew the risks when signing up, and if they don't like it, they can always go AWOL.
At least the injured ones are receiving a Purple Heart medal. _________________ Whale

Not necessarily. Okay it's been wartime now for quite some years. 1990 with Iraq (the first one) Afghanistan, Iraq, Timor etc. However, not everyone joins up to 'shoot the shit' out of someone.
When I joined the RAAF it was peacetime. The thought of actually being in a conflict never ever entered my mind, nor that it could happen. But it does.
I was very lucky to have done my 8 years completely in Peacetime (and i get my medal for it on Monday......hmmmm 20 years later). Others aren't quite so lucky. My ex, also joined in Peacetime, yet he's seen conflict in East Timor and spent 6 months in Iraq. When he joined all those years ago, he didn't imagine for one minute that he'd be going off to war. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

So people join the defence forces and hope they can get a medal and recognition but never actually do anything? |

"Cloke"???
Iraq is a disaster for pretty much all concerned, but that doesn't mean the yanks are losing. Yes their soldiers are getting blown up everyday, yes the country is a debacle... but all that's ok, they're there to build huge bases that'll be there for 50 years... as long as it's a debacle then they "can't cut & run!!!"
If the whole country was smooth and peaceful and democratic right now, it would be a yank-free super-powerful mega-islamic anti-US/israeli oil-rich powerhouse in about 5 years time.
This is not allowed. |

When he joined all those years ago, he didn't imagine for one minute that he'd be going off to war. | To be fair Jacqui Australia has been in peacetime since 1945 our armed forces simply by geographical location have got it easy, and i think its pretty silly to claim anyone in the armed forces anywhere throughout the world these days should claim ' unlucky ' at being called into active combat duty, and in no way am i being disrespectful to anyone in the armed forces i think they all do a valuable community service.
None of us have been to a war of any description so we can only opinionise and debate from what we see via the media, what i saw on this documentary was pure mayhem that one can only describe as some type of living hell...young man with intestines hanging out, guys on stretchers with both limbs missing, one guy had a hole so big in his foot you see the operating doctors hand dissapear inside it, guys with hands blown apart it was sickening footage.
But you know what got me, just about all soldiers with the exception of a couple of marines questioned what the hell were they doing in Iraq, thank God the world is now asking that same question.
Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it obvioulsy the yanks forgot about Vietnam so many years ago!! _________________ Football is Greatness

Korea? Vietnam?
If we aren't under attack we go looking for conflict wherever we can find it. |
