Pies spread Christmas cheer to kids

Quote: | The entire Collingwood playing list took part in the special CFC/McDonald’s Christmas Cheer program at the Royal Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House in Parkville on Tuesday.
The players were split up into small groups of four or five and spread Christmas cheer and delivered gifts to children who will be spending this Christmas in hospital.
Young Collingwood defender John Anthony summed up the experience for CTV.
“It gives them (the kids) something to look forward to when they hear about the footballers coming in and gives them something to laugh about,” said Anthony.
“We’ve got a little girl here who is only two and a half and has cancer unfortunately and the smile on her face really lifts her spirits and to see a smile on her mum’s face, she obviously spends a lot of time with her daughter here.
“It’s a real highlight of our day and especially our year to see little kids enjoying our company, and we enjoy their company.”
This Christmas, over 200 children will be receiving treatment at the Royal Children's Hospital.
Many of these children and their families will be staying at Ronald McDonald House. The House is a home away from home for the families of children who live in regional areas and need to travel to Melbourne for specialist treatment for serious illnesses which is not available in their home towns.
Since it first opened in 1986, the House has received over 260,000 nightly visitors from towns throughout Victoria.
The CFC/McDonald's Christmas Cheer program is funded by McDonald's in part of its three year partnership with the Collingwood Football Club, which is dedicated to promoting healthy, active lifestyle choices to children. |
D4P prediction:
Jack Anthony will captain Collingwood to a premiership by 2015.
Have a great Christmas all and Go Pies!!! _________________ "MAKE COLLINGWOOD GRATE AGAIN" |

Yeah a great initiative by the Pies. They had Nick Maxwell (who has been elevated to leadership group) on SEN and he spoke a bit about what they do at the hospital.
Interestingly not many of the children they visit even barrack for the Pies and the players cop of a bit of harmless ribbing. However im sure the children must really appreciate it around xmas time.
So well done to the Pies for putting something back into the community.

There's so much that Collingwood gives to the Community without people knowing about it. They just don't usually go out and blow their own trumpets.
Well done again Collingwood. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

I heard Nick on SEN too. WOW, he spoke so well. Very professional, it was so good to hear a footballer speak with intelligence.
Those little kids would have been off their heads over having them all in there. I know I would have been. hehehe
Good onya Boys, great chrissy present for the sick lil ones. _________________ "whaaa whaaaaaa! |

Great work CFC, boys, and all involved.
Who knows...some of the kids may even become part of the Collingwood faithful as a result hehe .
At the very least they'll have some fun which is whats important.
Great to hear JA's comments on it too. |

The nursing staff said they were fantastic on the whole - standouts as reported by my colleagues were Nick Maxwell, Heater Shaw and Daisy Thomas
Bloody hell Daisy even impressed one cynical old mate who suppoprts the red and black to exclaim - "well I can see why you would support the likes of that young man" High praise indeed
The kids and parents were still buzzing some time later - sometimes the smallest things can mean the most
Well done to our lads and to all the clubs that undertake these activities - the Dogs are also extremely generous with their time and make it seem not a chore * thumbs up* _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

And to think we have arseholes who claim to be collingwood folk always at the ready to shitbag this club...this is a good club and this proves its a successful club...wait until Christmas day when the Collingwood football club once again feeds a Chrissy lunch to those who are in need...its good to know in the real world premierships ammount to jack squat when in comparison to kids and the needy needing a lift!

Well done Pies! Way to spread some cheer to those less fortunate and especially kids. They'll remember somethin like this for long time.
And ofcourse you wouldn't read about this in the Herald Sun or The Age as it's a positive story on the Pies. |
