Thoughts? Kicked 2 goals and had 16 possies...

I think Murphy was the other standout....

Fantastic debut by Thomas

Played well. Especially early. He was a standout for us IMO. He knows where to direct the ball, he knows when to fly, and he has plenty of skill. I like him.

Its a little bit random that Rising Star thing at times. They are just as likely to nominate Van Berlo (if he's still eligible) or someone like that, knowing that Thomas may have more games similar to the one he just had.

You'd think so, but you don't know what they think about some players.

Josh Gibson should win it if eligible.
Murphy getting possies in a Carlton midfield is far from overly impressive, although well poised and Sparky was impressive as well.
But Gibson gets my nod, bloody hard for a first gamer to play a key role in defence and handled himself exceptionally.

He'll be very close to it. He certainly lived up to all the hype, and that mop of hair will prove eye-catching.

He'll get one in the first five rounds, surely.

He played so well last year, it was great to see when he kicked his first goal in AFL, the big time, and what about the mark, the crowd lefted then.

I'm sure he'll get nominated at some point this year!

What actually is the purpose of the award anyway???.... Is the club rewarded financially???... OR is it just another opportunity for AFL sponsorship dollars???

Gee i can be cynical after a loss at times!

Murphy earns early nomination
1:28:03 PM Tue 4 April, 2006
Sportal for afl.com.au
Carlton's Marc Murphy is the NAB AFL Rising Star nominee for round one.

While the Blues celebrated the 250-game milestone for skipper Anthony Koutoufides and a victory over Melbourne, Carlton fans would have been impressed by the 18-year-old's AFL debut where he gathered 17 possessions and kicked a goal in the first quarter.

Murphy's selection at No.1 in the 2005 NAB AFL Draft last November capped off a stellar junior football career. Originally from the Beverley Hills Football Club in suburban Melbourne, he captained Vic Metro at the 2005 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and won the Larke Medal and also gained All-Australian honours.

Playing for the Oakleigh Chargers in the TAC Cup competition, he was rated the best player in the competition. In 2004 he was a member of the AIS-AFL Academy Squad.

The midfielder is son of five-time Fitzroy best-and-fairest John Murphy and was 2005 NAB AFL Rising Star winner Brett Deledio's team mate in the Victorian under 17 cricket team in 2004.
