He has no defensive aspect of his game. Cannot cope with any physical presence. His run out of the backline has disapeared now that the opposition make him accountable.

He is young and can improve.

In saying that I reckon he would be trade bait for another club come this years trading period.

he should be played on the wing so he doesn't have to man up as much and he can just send those long bombs down to Rocca

The absolute first really good comment you have ever made MMF. Exactly what should happen and it's wierd that every single AFL supporter in the country can see it, and our coaching staff refuse to try it.

Lonie = penetrating wingman

Simple really.

I have marked him down as a player that may struggle to stay on our list at seasons end. What we are not seeing from him are those runs through the middle and the 55-60m kicks in the forward line. I also believe that he should be played on the wing and simply told to boot the ball into the forward 50 on every occassion. A good example of that was when Rocca took the mark just outside the goal square. That kick came from about 60m out.

As mentioned he should definitely be played on the wing. When he's firing he's one of the best kicks in our side. A bit of confidence and a new challenge and I think he'll be back to his best. And you can't tell me a personal tragedy doesn't affect someone's state of mind - he's had a lot to deal with but he's too good a player to lose. The whole team, including Lonie, will improve as soon as we can get a few wins under our belt and our confidence and self-belief is back.

GO PIES & GO LONES!

he is treading down the same path that jason cloke has taken, out of the AFL.... Lonie does have the odd good game, so im sure he will still be of value... Cloke on the other hand.... What was he doing on Hamill...?

He can rot as a tall defender as his time at Collingwood will waste away. He is a champ when on song and can be the differance between winning & losing. Play him on the wing, as he can't tackle or chase with the ferosity required.

After last night he needs to be sent to Williamstown for awhile. He has lost the plot and I dont see him regaining it in the seniors. Ryan was such a promising talent and began to drop off last season, its such a pity.

He just needs confidence to run with the ball and needs to stop thumbling!! His ball handling skills as well as the whole teams have been so far below AFL grade its not funny.

Ryan Lonie - Is he coming or going? In fairness to him he had the wrong match up last night but all evening he showed a lack of confidence. I'd love him to get back to his 2001 form but it's just not happening.

Your thoughts?...

He should be playing midfield/wing, not in the backline. And he should never be allowed to kick in after a behind again.

He should kick in as he is the 4th best kick at the club (behind Bucks, Tarks and Clemo). He is mucking up as he is down confidence.

Lonie proved his value with two runs followed by long kicks. That is the key to his game. He was crucified by being asked to mind a ruckman sized player. His true position is as a running half back flanker or a wingman. Mediocre Mick seems intent on destroying any confidence Lonie had.

Would a week at Willi help or destroy his confidence even further?

sherrife - most of my comments are spot on if you both to read them.

I always read yours.

I think as we play Adelaide at Telstra without any wind, his kicking next week will be invaluable.

spot on.... Lonie is a classic wingman and does not have the intensity to be a backman.... everyone can see this except our MORON coach.

Mick's obsession with accountability, yesterday produced only 1 true attacking midfielder.... Ben Johnson.... and even he started the game on Milne in the backline.
