Ive heard on the grapevine that 7 are going to either buy or sponsor one of the Melb based ASL teams.
They are going full bore next year on soccer coverage and feel that if they can help make one of the melb clubs stronger it will give them a bigger audience.
they want to take some of the AFLs audience.
fat chance.!
they stuffed up footy now they want to stuff up soccer.
and i hope they never cover another olympics because they made a real mess of that too!!

Let them blow their dough. Soccer is THE world sport. But in Australia it is second rate in both quality and it support. Ch.7 have been sulking like babies since they lost the footy and have been anti Eddie and Collingwood for his part in Ch9's success.

Collingwwod and Carlton couldn't make it work. Ch.7 have 1 advantage - air time. Air time is very expensive and if they show low rating soccer it will cost them a fortune in advertising revenue on top of their sponsorship.

Go ahead 7 - give it a shot. It will be an expensive and short lived attempt to get back at gteh AFL. They forget that they lived the AFL in Melbourne for all of those 40odd years they kept telling us about last season.

Peter - it's a takeoff of a music video kind of. Bit of a catchy tune to get people interested. As for Channel 7 and the soccer, I think Dennis Commeti summed it up well in an article I read this excerpt from an aticle:

He said staying at Seven would have been a harder job than making the move to Nine. ''I really enjoyed my time at Channel 7 overall,'' he said, ''and because they're going to have to change and look at sports like soccer and basketball, my concern was that in five or six years when I retired I didn't want to be at a Sydney recreational ground doing Marconi v Sydney Olympic or something with 3000 people sitting in a tin shed.''

Niiiiice.
