Peter, just a question, but what has Cathy Freeman done in 2001? I thought she had a year off, don't know how she can be considered.

My nominations are Kostya Tszyu and Matthew Hayden. Kostya proved he is the best in the world by destroying Zab 'the mouth' Judah. At the beginning of the year Hayden's ability as an opening batsman was being questioned by many. He shoved it up his critics by having the best year ever by an Australian. His form in India and this summer in Australia was simply breathtaking...

Of course Ian Thorpe is a cert, but Grant Hackett has to be given some consideration for smashing the great Keiran's long-standing world record...
