Yeah well I just found out that I am not getting extra pay for working on a public holiday... some illegal stuff going on here maybe?

nah i get paid a cheque
There is no difference between casual, part time etc. it all depends on your age.
Each year older, you get paid a little bit more.
Haha I'll stop my complaining now, I'll just quit working there soon lol

Incorrect, casual should be getting paid more p/h to make up for the lack of sick leave/holiday pay/whatever other benefits part timers get. |

who do you work for? not many industries pay by cheque these days, most deposit straight into bank accounts.
If your under state awards, then you should be getting paid extra for the public holiday. Check it out with wagenet and the other links I gave you.

The whole notion of not getting paid a full days wage while I'm sitting at my mates place getting pissed while watching a horse race just doesn't sit well with me

my daughter is a sub contractor. she doesn't get paid for public holidays holidays, sick pay or annual leave. But she's doing quite well for a 24 year old.

I am 18 and get paid $21 an hour and i hate it, because i know that in any other job i will probably never get paid as much. Yeah its all fine and well to say oh i wish i had that kind of money, but at 18 you want to work towards something. I don't feel i have something to work towards. Yes i will agree that the national training wage is too low for people to survive on, especially as they are only starting out in life, but what i am getting is waaaaaay too much.
Like your daughter Proud Pies, i don't get sick pay, holiday pay etc, but as i work in schools (Active after school communities) i am forced to have holidays when there are school holidays, thus i don't get paid for 6 weeks over summer!
