Post subject: A Pre-Trade week round-up..Reply with quote

Here's a great little summary from The Australian;

Quote:
ADELAIDE
Matthew Clarke was advised that it would be in his best interest to retire, which he did. But fellow veteran Ben Hart did not take that option and was axed this week. He's not happy about it but it's hard to imagine any other club picking up a 32-year-old with a recent history of injury problems. The Crows are expected to be small players next week, if they play at all.

BRISBANE
Michael Voss and Mal Michael have joined Brad Scott in retirement, Clark Keating has been axed, and the Lions will lose Jason Akermanis, who is looking for a new home in Melbourne.

Daniel Bradshaw is out of contract and has attracted interest in Melbourne, but Brisbane has demanded a first-round pick for him, which no club will entertain.

Matthew Moody has signed a one-year deal. Tim Notting, Beau McDonald and Richard Hadley have been offered one-year deals. Ashley McGrath and Scott Harding are out of contract.

Brisbane needs to shed about $500,000 out of its football department.

CARLTON
Out-of-contract full-back Bret Thornton is in dispute with the Blues over money and the two-year contract he has been offered. Hawthorn is preparing to make a three-year, $1 million offer.

Brad Fisher has re-signed for a further two years, but Jordan Russell may be off-loaded to Port Adelaide after just two years at Princes Park.

COLLINGWOOD
The Magpies are not pushing to trade Chris Tarrant, but are all ears and Tarrant and his management are keen for him to play elsewhere next season. Collingwood will listen to offers and will only deal on Tarrant, who is contracted for another year, on their terms, which is for a first-round selection and a player in return.

The Pies are trying to trade out Cameron and Jason Cloke. They will be de-listed if there are no takers.

ESSENDON
Jason Johnson, Dean Solomon, Adam McPhee and Damien Peverill remain out of contract. Johnson has threatened to walk if the Bombers do not offer him a better deal than the one-year on offer.

Essendon was heavily into recruiting Jason Akermanis, but he has indicated he wants to join the Western Bulldogs. Kevin Sheedy has held discussions with sacked West Coast ruckman Michael Gardiner.

FREMANTLE
The Dockers need to make decisions on veterans Shaun McManus and Troy Cook, as well as James Walker who fell out of favour this year.

Chris Tarrant is a priority target, but to get him they may have to give up a young midfielder like Byron Schammer, as well as their first pick in the draft.

Graham Polak has attracted a lot of interest from other clubs, but he may be re-contracted and stay. Paul Medhurst is contracted and appears certain to remain.

GEELONG
With Andrew Mackie signed for three more years after he was courted by Port Adelaide, the only required players out of contract are Nathan Ablett and David Wojcinski.

The Cats have received plenty of interest from clubs keen to acquire James Kelly and Steve Johnson.

The Cats are not expected to be big players next week, and they may not get involved at all.

Kent Kingsley walked before being pushed, but there has been little interest in him.

HAWTHORN
Much will hinge on what deal Hawthorn agrees to before releasing Peter Everitt, who is out of contract. If a deal with Sydney is not reached, Everitt may slip through to the pre-season draft.

The Hawks are also chasing out-of-contract Carlton full-back Thornton and are prepared to offer him a contract for at least three years.

Matthew Ball has been delisted.

KANGAROOS
The Roos are not expected to be players in trade week after being vigorous over the past few years. They have third pick in the national draft and their concentration is on picking the best available teenager.

MELBOURNE
The Demons are heavily into recruiting midfielder Jason Johnson from Essendon should he remain in dispute with the Bombers. Melbourne wants to trade for Johnson next week rather than risk losing him elsewhere in the pre-season draft, but the Demons have yet to make an offer of players or a draft choice to Essendon.

PORT ADELAIDE
The Power failed to lure Andrew Mackie from Geelong and is now looking at trading in Carlton's Jordan Russell.

Port Adelaide needs to make tough decisions on veterans Darryl Wakelin and Matthew Bishop. The club started the year too old and has already retired Gavin Wanganeen, Josh Francou, Adam Kingsley and Peter Walsh.

RICHMOND
After making enquiries into Fremantle's Polak, the Tigers have gone cold on the key-position player and may not be major players next week.

The Tigers have declared Mark Coughlan off limits to the Dockers.

ST KILDA
The Saints are looking to boost their ruck department and have spoken to Clark Keating and made inquiries to Peter Everitt and Michael Gardiner. It's unlikely they will be big players next week.

SYDNEY
The Swans were probably a quality ruckman away from successive premierships, so it's no wonder they are keen to get Everitt. So far, they have resisted parting with a first or second-round draft choice demanded by Hawthorn, but they have a week to satisfy the Hawks.

WEST COAST
Expect premiership defender Drew Banfield to retire. Travis Gaspar and Andrew McDougall have been told to seek opportunities elsewhere.

The Eagles have so far resisted inquiries for Ashley Sampi who is contracted for next year.

Expect West Coast to make a big play for Tarrant, which would cost it at least its first-round selection in the national draft.

Don't be surprised if premiership midfielder Chad Fletcher is nominated by the Eagles as a possible trade next week.

WESTERN BULLDOGS
The obvious question for the Bulldogs is how they will satisfy Brisbane to gain the services of Akermanis, who has identified the Dogs as his preferred club of choice.

Sam Power, brother of star Lions midfielder Luke, will not be part of the deal.

Kieran McGuinness and Brad Murphy have already been delisted.

Sounds like this year could be jam packed with trades... unlike past years.

Alot of talk... but by friday afternoon we will know the outcome.

Alot of Pies talk... so most supporters are now expecting some big changes... so they better deliver!! Twisted Evil

Fletcher is on the way down. Chronically.

WCE's 1st rounder plus a Rosa / Butler type is realistic.

A straight swap for Waters is probably out of the question after the GF.

Wishing Waters'd put in a shocker in the GF, LM! Might have strengthened the prospects.

How he'd add spine to the side.

Thats the problem we cant go oh we cant have him or we cant him because then we end up getting a player we dont really want or need.

Make no mistake Tarrant will be a an out and out gun in Perth. He is made for Subiaco. WCE have been able to make Lynch look like a gun.
