I can't believe that we let Rick slip out of our hands. He had/has a lifetime love of travelling and unbelievable knowlege of the game and a Life member who should be with us.
(1977-86)
151 Games, 140 Goals

Yep so did I, use to sit on the boundary with him when He was injured ( which was often), took shite loads of photos.

Funny story, last day at Vic Park, had my old duffel coat on and was filming around the ground. This chick came up to me and asked to take a photo, turns out she was Ricks sister inlaw and wanted to show him. Probably pissed himself laughing

In those days you really could spend time and get to know the players without someone coming over a telling you pee of.

Superb wingman who kicked goals at will.

Where is he now?

Before Pants he was the favourite of the Ryder wing.

Champion wingman who could take a mark.
The racehorse created excitement whenever he got the ball.
How good was it watching him sprint down the wing at Victoria Park.
Confession,he is the only player I have ever had on the back of my guernsey with the famous number 1.

He has been working for years with the swans, suits his lifestyle, travelling around the country. Lives in Melbourne.

Thats why I made this thread, we always seem to have some fabulous past players that are within the system, not necessarily coaching but in player management and most of these players played under Tommy. Tells you something about tommy (probaby reaching at short straws).

God, those runs and then kicking goals from a distance on the run 40-45 metres out on the boundary line, made me go all funny inside, especially for a sixteen year old.

He played against some great wingmen of the time, actually I reckon it was a period of time where the wingman were the best that I ever seen. Grieg, Simma, Flower, Turner (wanker), Harmes, Dippa (a bit later)

I think a read a Collingwood top 100 players book published 10 years ago that he was in the top 100, pretty good for a player that could have played 250 games rather than 158. Bloody hamstrings.

Not a short straw at all. Where did Tommy go after the 82 debarcle? You guessed it. The current Sydney success story is more than just a half baked promote AFL to the Rugby state campaign. This has been 2 decades in the making.

We had the chance to make Tommy Black & White through and through and we tossed it away. He loves his Tigers and they love him. He also has a soft spot for his Swanys, but Collingwood, apart from being the most unrewarded stretch of sustained success in the history of the game, it really doesn't mean anything and the bridges are burnt.

Tommy did turn up to the last day at vic park and I bumped into him and what a legend, he takes the time, his time, to have a chat, just fantastic. And he is still one of the people I admire the most, taking time to listen and have respect for others.

When tommy left we went wild, was on the news and other secret stuff. god, it was devastating.

Ricky was the same to, great with kids, actually it took 3 attempts to get his teaching degree, because of his hammies (if I remember, it was many many moons ago)
