Post subject: Looking Long Term Shane Wakelin | |
|
Sorry Shane Wakelin, but if the club is serious, they need to be telling you that your position in the starting 22 will only be available if either, Clement, Jason C, Presti, or Harry is not available.
He is on the wrong side of 30 and will probably retire at the end of the year maybe next year. What do we do then?
Jason Cloke would have left us and we will have nothing.
He needs to make way for the youth so we have a long term solution, I personally don't believe that Jason has played any worse or better than Wakelin and you know Jason can get better, Wakelin is as good as he is going to ever be.
Finish by saying I like him but they need to think long term _________________ BRING IT ON. |

I'd still play him when fit. He hasn't done much wrong this season when in the side, and is one of many who deserve a flag/another chance at finals action. I hope he continues beyond 2006, as he still has a bit to give. |

I would certainly play him the rest of this year, but wouldnt be looking for next year. I think id rather someone like Harry, or if it could keep J Cloke staying would much rather that option. |

I think it's simple - Play him whilst he deserves a spot!.. IMHO he still does when the right match up is there. He probably hasn't had his best year to date and is in his twilight. However, he is a GUN and could lift for September!!
If the coaching staff believe Wakes is the best man for a job in any game this year then he should be selected. Others in the wings will just have to wait for their opportunity - We are up for a finals birth [top 4 even!!] & i don't care what anyone says,.... come September it's up for the taking and we need our most potent combination out there.
Have enjoyed watching Shane resurrect his career with us - A good footy story & a real talent!!... looks like a good bloke to-boot!!.. not that i care - i just wanna WIN |

Agree.
While finals are in the picture, we should play for this season. Make the long term decisions after September. |

Wakelin has been used sparingly this year, being rested for certain games and spending considerable time on the bench when he does play. This suggests that he may go on next year. |

i'd still prefer him in the side over jason cloke come finals time.
next year? tough call. we should be throwing everything (within reason) at matt maguire in the off-season. would solve many a problem. |

But I did see him out run Aaron Davey and beat him for a seat on V Line tram the other morning. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

I recall telling you on a lovely mid summer day that he was done and dusted as we saw him put in a shocker at Optus. |

True, outran by a mobile solarium called N. Thompson. Wakes has been a great servant to the club regardless. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".

Agreed - his service has been exceptional - both on an off the field with not only marketing but two very famous advertisements - one for shampoo and another for Mainland Cheese Bites. |

Agree with most here, probably in his last year and he deserves to be a part of the action come September where he'd still have a bit to offer. Along with Brody and Clement he's been one of the standout 'recycled' players of the past 5 years or so _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |
