Building firms in crackdown

UNION stickers, signs and flags are disappearing from major building sites under tough laws and a federal code to rein in militant behaviour.

Contractors such as Grocon and the John Holland Group are cleaning up the so-called industrial graffiti to comply with a national push to improve productivity.
Signs such as "No ticket no start", which once proclaimed union domination over building sites, have become a thing of the past.

Grocon has issued its workers with new helmets and is demanding any stickers meet safety and freedom-of-association rules under the Federal Government's national code of practice.
