Well ....

First up, a very hearty thank you to Clemo, Joffa, Foxy, Magpie Gal 19, JLC, ck_nd and Cobood for your kind thoughts.

Thanks also to George Q. And I'm sorry to say, I don't bulk bill. You can blame our economic rationalist society for that. Instead I have to impart my wisdom to the world for free. I mean, how do you work out a scale of fees for "philosophy"? I wonder how much money Socrates made.

Brown26, you've got the right idea. You're going to be a REAL doctor, with a stethoscope and all. When I was a little kid I thought doctors were actually born with a stethoscope growing out of their ears ... so tell me, were you?

London Dave ... that's great about the petrol rationing. The only problem is, I don't drive. Believe me, doctors of "philosophy" can't afford cars. And besides that, we're much too "wise".

Ed Healey ... if you manage to wade through my dissertation (all several hundred pages of it) you'll discover that my title was chosen with a great sense of irony. I think you'll find yourself agreeing with a lot of what I had to say.

But you can save yourself the trouble because Nick the Pie Man has summed it all up a lot more succinctly than I have. Isn't it amazing how academics always manage to use 100,000 words to say something that could expressed in one sentence. I should have got you to write it for me, Nick. It would have saved me 4 and a half years' work.

OK. Now ... as for making this damn thing available, I'm working on it. I'm trying to set up a web-site where you can go to download it, but I'm a bit of a novice in this area so just be patient while I get my head around this.

Ain't life crazy, huh? I can write a bloody Ph.D. thesis, but I can't work out how to put it on the net. I'll just put it down to eccentric genius.

Hopefully, I'll have it sorted out real soon.

Congratulations Alf!!!!

Thats an awesome effort. Now I hope you can bind a copy and send it off to Wayne and Co. at AFL headquaters! Someone needs to let them hear the voice of the real supporter and from the sounds of it this would be the perfect thing. Who better qualified than the peoples choice and the forums own "Dr Alf".

Once again Doc... well done!!!

What an absent-minded professor (well, not quite) I am. In my litany of "thank-you" messages, I forgot to mention ... er, who was it I forgot? ...

... the name just escapes me ...

... was it Nike ...

... er, Mork ...

... er ...

MIKE !

Alf, I can't say I was born with a stethoscope comming out my ears, but I've got one on the shelf (now I've just gotta work out how to use the damn thing!)

Isn't it funny how the guy gets a change in social stature and suddenly his whole image changes (re: picture) I mean are you running for parliment or something!!

And with regards to getting it on the net, this is where we turn to our good friend Mike. Lol - the master of all things computer.

Many congratulations to you Alf.

As someone who's only just completed a Masters thesis (on a considerably less exciting topic), I have some appreciation of the enormity of the task.

I look forward to reading your tome, though my own expereince has put me off "heavy" reading for a while, so it may take me as long to read as it did you to write.

I'll have a few cold ones in your honour this evening.
