The so called refugees we have now are Australians by convenience. Duel citizenship is a joke and should be removed. You asked them before they all say I am a Lebanese Australian. The bombs start dropping, all of a sudden the Lebanese has been dropped and they are just Australians. Of course we all would do anything to get out of hell, but you’re either one or the other. In the US you have to swear allegiance to the flag and the same should apply here.

You’re thoughts?

Agreed whole heartedly. They take advantage of this country. While I disagree with US on many front their patriotism is one thing I am envious of. I sympathise with those over in Lebanon, but you really can't just pick and choose what race you want to be.

I wonder how different views would be if there was a war in Britain would we say f@#$em thay have dual-citizenship or would it be a case of we must help them whatever the cost.

All Australians considered themselves British citizens for 150 odd years

Absolute rubbish. Have you been watching the Green Berets with John Wayne or something? Didn't you know you can cross your fingers when pledging allegiance to the flag!

The US allowed dual nationalities before we did. My wife is a US, UK and Australian citizen. I've got OZ and UK. Even if I didn't have dual, I have absolutely no problem with multiple nationalities. I pay my taxes in Oz, so even as those the pricks deny me the vote, I'd expect to be given assistance by the Australian govt in a situation like the present. Most of those people in Lebanaon, would, I'd suggest, been eligible for dual nationality from birth. I chose to become a pom, I'm less 'patriotic' than them as a result, I'd reckon.

If I was stuck in Lebanon, I wouldn't have been waiting for the Oz to get their shit together, I'd have jumped on the first pommy ship available.

I am not and nor have i ever ever been a British Citizen.

I am Australian and a citizen of Australia by birth.

Jewish people are automatically given Isreali Citizenship on Birth and it doesn't matter what country they live in.

Australian killed fighting for Israel
From:

July 27, 2006

AN Australian fighting with the Israeli army has been killed during a fierce battle in southern Lebanon.

Assaf Namer, 26, was one of nine soldiers killed in a Hezbollah ambush near the guerrilla stronghold of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon yesterday.

Sergeant Namer, whose family lives in Sydney, was born in Israel but moved to Australia with his family when he was 10.

The Australian citizen moved back to Israel two and a half years ago to enlist in the army, according to Israeli media reports.

He is the first Australian killed in the war between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas, which began two weeks ago and which has claimed nearly 500 lives.

New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies chief executive Vic Alhadeff confirmed Sgt Namer's death.

“We were extremely upset to hear about the death as we are at all casualties of this war,” Mr Alhadeff said.

Sgt Namer's sister and mother left Sydney today on their way to Israel.

The Israeli newspaper Yediot Achronot said Sgt Namer was from Kiryat Yam, and was serving in the Golani division of the Israeli army.

Sgt Namer was due to be discharged from the army within a month and planned to settle down in Israel with his Tel Aviv-based girlfriend.

So far, 433 Lebanese and 51 Israelis have died in the conflict.

The news comes as 12 Australian soldiers attached to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon are to be withdrawn because of the escalating risks in the war-ton country.

Defence Minister Brendan Nelson today said the decision was due to the dangers of the war between Israel and Hezbollah guerillas, which resulted in the death this week of four UN observers.

The 4 UN observers had apparently warned the the Israel army 10 times that they were going to be in the area and what time. And still they were bombed.

It was an accident, they sent 15 bombs in there and made the same mistake 15 times. Rolling Eyes
