| Post subject: Refugees and asylum seekers |  |
|
Should we be helping refugees and asylum seekers more now, say from somewhere like in Lebanon under humanitarian programs.
Or should we be more worried about our own backyard of so called ghetto communities, with i guess more trouble and crime as a result of some of these people not getting work, or are finding it hard to get into the Australian community in general.
I always think of so many good reasons for both arguments, which inturn always makes me wonder where i sit on this subject.
Would be interested in anyone elses opinion? |

Of course we should, after all we brought criminals, disease and trouble with the first fleet. It would be the only decent thing to do as we arrived here as Refugees in the first place to help fellow refugees.

Interesting on the one hand seeing politicians making a plea for us to breed to prosper one week than defending our treatment of asylum seekers the next! |

Rand and 3rd degree,
Hypothetically would you change your opinion if say a Lebanese group here decided to attack Jews or vice versa? Lets say at a level of cronulla riots. Should we be looking at this as a potential problem. |

No people attack each other from different races everyday of the week.
Violence will always exist in society, regardless of culture or race

Lebanese groups attack anyone and everyone here, so it's already a problem, and will continue to be so. |

I could have said the same about any other ethnic group, but as the current news revolves around Isreal v Lebanon, you don't hear of any Jewish gangs shooting up police stations, beating up life guards and raping schoolgirls (then joking about it in court). |
Well there are plenty of Lebanese people in Melbourne but you don't see any of that here do you? There are also an abundance of various Asian gangs in Sydney, and very little of that in Melbourne.
Do you think it's possible that the social consequences of pathetically poor city planning and integration have something to do with the mess that is Sydney's ethnic underclasses?

There's plenty of ethnic gangs in Melbourne, try Oakleigh, Noble Park, Dandenong, in the south east.

Mate i live in Dandenong north (middle of SE-Melbourne) and I can tell you that what passes for gangs here is a bunch of kids driving their cars around chapel st and tagging a few schools and shops in their local areas.
