"the biggest influence on Australia's rugby codes has been the influx of Pacific Islanders.
The impact has been felt even more at junior levels, with the emergence of bigger, faster and stronger players with islander roots making it difficult for smaller players to compete.

"The other week I saw a kid playing for the Blacktown City under 10s and he was 96 kilos," Geyer says. "While he was buggered after one or two runs, he only had to walk over the try line from five metres out, even though there were five or six kids hanging off him.

"It wasn't a contest and it can't be fun for him or the kids playing against him. The authorities must address the issue."

Do you know the smallest influence on Australia's rugby codes was the influx of Pacific Islanders?

As a committee member and player at an almost exclusively Samoan Rugby club in Melbourne's north, I can sympathise with these smaller junior kids. However, dispensations can be made for players who are excessively small or large to play up or down a junior age division (for example, a massive U10 kid can be allowed to play in the U12 or vice-versa for smaller kids).

I agree that Aussie Rules accounts for more athletic "normal" body types. That said, small in the AFL (as in height) is about average height everywhere else. For example, Leon Davis is 178cm-while it is small for AFL it's proabably average in Society.

Look at Rugby Union, virtually none of the ALL Blacks are kiwis. They should be called the Pacific Island team.

It is a disgrace.

The New Zeland team should be disbanded.

Shouldn't they play what they want to play??...I don't understand, why, when you clearly love the sport of Aussie rules, make your kids play soccer. It's the nature of the sport.

I'd like my kids to play golf. Assuming I ever have kids that is Smile
It'd be much easier when I'm old and withered to have a hit with my children than kick a footy Laughing
Anyways, have you seen how much money those guys make on the US tour Cool

You two really should get together Laughing
I find it amazing that Davis looks so small compared to most other AFL players and yet I think he's exactly the same height as me, and I reckon I'm taller than average.

Don't you believe children should have a choice??

Anyway, what makes you so certain that your child/ren are going to want to play sport? Your child/ren may be interested in other extra-curricular activities, such as: volunteering, animal observing, scouts etc.

Parents shouldn't live their lives through their children.. It happens too often, nowadays, and it ends up that the kids hate the activity in the end!

Let children choose the activities that THEY are actually interested in...

If they can get hurt, it wont phase them, because it is what they want to do.

*Sorry! Embarassed I am finally sounding like an early childhood educator. lol! It's good to see that I've been listening in class Shocked*

Love always, Alyssa xoxo
