Wallaby shot with arrow
21jun06

A WALLABY has been pierced through the shoulder with an arrow in what the RSPCA has branded a "wanton act of cruelty".

RSPCA Queensland Chief Inspector Byron Hall said it was the second such shooting at Wacol, in Brisbane's outer west, in three days.
RSPCA officers today unsuccessfully tried to catch and put down the wallaby.

Mr Hall said the injured animal faced a "slow, excruciating death" if further attempts to catch it this afternoon failed.

"It got away into thick scrub near Wolston Park ... (it) must be in terrible pain.

" ... this is a wanton act of cruelty," he said.

On Monday, RSPCA officers had to euthanase an Eastern Grey Kangaroo because of the extent of its injuries after it had also been shot with an arrow.

Mr Hall appealed for information and said anyone convicted of animal cruelty faced a fine of up to $75,000 or two years' imprisonment.

I thought that was sort of how the aborigines used to get kangaroos, except with spears.
All the same, that was for food so it was justified... this just seems to be nothing but mindless cruelty.
